Alanis is a lot like Phil Anselmo. When she talks, people listen. I'm happy for her and her family, as she kept asking for in her songs, I think she's found the finish line. She seems happy, and that makes me happy.

I'd love to have a conversation with her. Her interviews inspire me even more than her music. A book. THAT would be awesome. She has such an easy way with words. For anyone who got lost when she started talking about child development, she was saying she wished the stages of development were common knowledge in our culture and that babies/children would be allowed to progress through those stages at a natural pace. She's right. The needs of children are definitely not a priority in our culture. Example: no laws regarding maternity leave in the US. In Sweden, mothers get two years of paid maternity leave and fathers get one year of paid paternity leave. (Only for three children max. Seems fair enough, because otherwise people may continue being on maternity/paternity leave indefinitely.) What a concept. So counter to our workaholic tendencies in the US. It's in the best interest of the parents, the child, and in turn, the society as whole--- To have healthy, thriving, confident children.

Alanis you are so right about breastfeeding till the baby decides when he or she are done. My girls weaned themselves. I had enjoyed the bonding so much that I kinda wanted to cry when my youngest fed for like two minutes and was turning away. After that she no longer wanted to.

It's really sad that the media only prefers to play Alanis' "popular" songs and make out that Jagged Little Pill is the only successful album she's had (commercially yes, but it's not her best lyrically and musically)...this happens all too often. But I'm happy that they're at least mentioned her new album and let Alanis be open and candid :)

Agreed! My favourite albums of hers is "Flavors of Entanglement" and "So-called Chaos", with the non mainstream songs being my go to songs, her lyrics in both albums are so much more relatable to me than "Jagged Little Pill" (I enjoy the album but I find more of a connection with the other 2)

Also "Feast on Scraps". Whenever I a experiencing a bad time with BPD I turn to Alanis' cathartic and very publicly honest songs such as "Tapes", "Fear of Bliss", "One" and "Sorry 2 Myself", her music has personally helped healing.

What's "ironic" about this is how her postpartum depression began with her first child yet still CHOSE to breed yet a couple of other babies when she could have chosen not to go further down that road. I've been a massive fan of hers for years, her music has helped and inspired me tremendously but all this baby business coming from her is... puzzling, to say the least. Thank you disillusionment? One might say so...
@OhShitItsMarianna
9 жыл бұрын
The introduction saying that she suffered "baby blues" is very misinformative. Depression during pregnancy is divided into 3 categories, baby blues being the first on the scale and the less serious as it is just a temporary sad or anxious feeling that is actually normal because of the hormones and fears pregnancy can inflict. Postpartum depression and psychosis are the other 2 categories and completely diferent monsters.
@kristyndawson

Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking. Baby blues and Postpartum Depression are NOT the same. I almost felt mad watching this; the writers downplayed what Postpartum Depression truly is.

You should not conflate baby blues with postpartum depression. One is hormonal and occurs in almost 90% of the population and the other is a mood disorder occuring in 1 in 7 women, possibly as much as 1 in 5.
