I'd heard the song was written in 1982 then placed away for 4 years. The group didnt think it was the right time then. Turned out to be perfect timing when they'd finally recorded it - hitting Number 1 on three charts, adult contemporary, R&B and Pop charts in 1987.

We are still loving this song after all these incredible years. My husband and I were 11 years into our marriage at the time this beautiful classic was born. We both knew that the words of this song were our story -- from the few years of our dating, then confidently forward to our marriage for life We welcomed a precious family of four children into our family during those years that followed after our marriage in 1976. For a number of those years, we'd hear this love song playing on the radio or on playlists in commercial buildings. And then --- it quietly stopped. Thanks to youtube, we can listen any time to our love songs and reminisce about our love story of nearly 47 years and going stronger than ever! Thank you for sharing a bit of OUR past that we wish could be a part of this generation's story ---- faithful devotion without compromise to the world OR others!

One of the best duets of all time in my opinion, alongside Terrence Trent D'arbys and Des'rees Delicate. I sung this song on bended knee in front of 60 people when I proposed to my wife Mendel. I hid in the Stationary cupboard and then when everyone was at their desks, Me and a guitarist flung the door open and I walked up to Mendel in my white suit, took her hand and serenaded her. She said yes by the way. The entire office was in tears, men and women....a memorable song for this reason.

True R&B that has stood the test of time. Atlantic Star had many true classics such as Closer Than Close, Circles, If your Heart isn't In It, One Lover, Freakaristic, Masterpiece and many more. Loved listening to them in the late seventies and through the eighties. Always is the wedding song for the eighties and their original line up in the seventies was excellent.

I believe that this is the official version of the song but not the version that was played on the radio. The radio version was about a minute shorter minus segments of repetition and an instrumental segment. Yes, this was a very popular wedding song in the late 1980's and early 90's. The beginning is so uplifting and inspiring.
@davidcollver6155

Recording studios usually made multiple versions. Radio stations were giving an allotted amount of minutes seconds for each song so the recording Studios had to match that. Then in the early eighties when MTV came out they stretched the songs out to match their videos or vice versa. That's just all the information that all the people that know this stuff have been pushing out so all of us know what's been going on with the music industry and why everything is the way it is.

When you listen to the love songs from back then is how we felt for each other. Men weren't so emotionally withdrawn as people preach. If not how could we have made such beautiful songs. Think about it. We had been through wars hard economic times and many changes but the difference in our generation then the recent generations we never let the hardships affect our hearts, the love we had for each other. It's a difficult time for many now, even me a boomer, gen x who still dance with his wife and speak to her in the same manner you heard in this song. Don't let the world make you lose the tenderness in your heart. If so you will never have that type of love as in the video.

Love this song. Loved it when it came out. My list of loved love songs is a bit short. But this one is there of course. Thank you for the reaction. I do wish I could exchange such words with someone. Still a romantic. : ) Just a wee bit off topic... I've been a romantic since age 6, when I got a crush on an older woman. She was twelve. She looked so beautiful to me, and she had the true hallmark of adulthood-- she wore a ring!! That was a big deal for me. She never knew how I felt, never told her, wouldn't have known how. Shyness kept me silent. It was silly anyway, but it wasn't. It's tough when you feel something like that for the first time and you don't know how to say it, don't dare if you did.

This song makes me sad because in the documentary "15 Days In May", a young man on death row had always proclaimed his innocence and at his final family visit in prison, the female members of his family sang this song to him acapella. Unfortunately, he was sent to the gas chamber. The documentary maker pursued the evidence further to uncover the truth and it turned out he was indeed innocent.
