Lance, I have a Magnum 725. It is powered up, but the keypad no longer responds to key strokes. There is currently no battery hooked up to it, but I know it should to operate properly without. I also have power at the pad. I have access to the Run, reset, load button inside the panel box. Still none of these options help. Any suggestions?

Very helpful video, thanks Lance. We had a rare power cut the other day and our alarm sounded when power was restored. I checked the alarm panel's 12V battery - no-load volts of 2V! I ordered and fitted a new 12V battery. I have 2 issues now: 1 With battery only power (no AC power) alarm system (eg connected keypad) appears dead, even though battery contact points on pcb read 12.8V. 2 With AC power only I checked the open-circuit charging voltage at the (not connected) battery terminals; this was 10V, surely too low. Any thoughts? thankyou

Hello Most commercial alarm panels will not start up again with battery power only. System design Is to wait until ac power is restored then startup alarm system and charge/recharge battery ( it assumes battery is dead). Please check power transformer (connected to wall). If volts are correct, then put wires on terminal

Sounds like you may have a partially damaged alarm board. Check plug in wall transformer for proper voltage. If good then panel should light up. If not then prob a damaged power supply circuit on board near where AC terminals are. Look for small burn marks on both front and back of board. Best wishes

The charging circuit has blown in my panel. Would it be safe to run an external trickle charge into the panel attached to the battery, to keep the battery charged, or would this cause problems? Thanks in advance.

I have not tried this. The alarm panel reads battery status every 60 seconds I believe and reports any issues to the system. Not sure if it would understand the trickle charger. When I have a blown charging circuit, I have to change it for liability purposes.

I disagree, the normal lifespan on the battery is 5-7 years, and yes, depending on power failers and size of the battery. But good video..

Hi Trino, you are correct that a SLA battery could last this long in residential application but in a commercial application (which this panel is) it is not recommended. What can shorten a SLA battery life span is how many times AC power is lost. If this happens frequently and the battery goes into deep discharge, then its life span is adversely affected. Since the alarm company can’t control this factor, it is simply recommended that is be changed approximately once every 3 years, unless the panel sends a trouble message to do it sooner. For liability reasons we prefer not to wait until we receive this message and then not be able to get tech out for a few days.

Interesting .I have replaced my battery. it powered up then after 3 days the battery drained .so then I checked fuses there all OK. So then I turned off all power in the house .disconnected black wire on battery put multimeter on it at amps setting to check connections .turns out it was my power supply (transformer )as some folk call it .so I replaced it with a new psu.then it worked at mains side and also battery works too .

@@secguy61 it is rare .there is to many videos of folks talking about replacing a battery .but they don't show the mains side of it which needs to be diagnosed also .because the battery is only a backup incase of a power cut to the house in which case the battery kicks in till mains power is switched back on .
