You should definitely do Iași soon. I know Moldavia gets no love, but that city was also a capital in the past. I'm sure you will find many places worth seeing.

1785. Not 1885. The Revolt of Horea, Closca and Crisan was 31 October 1784 - 28 February 1785. The peasant revolt soon turned into religious and ethnic cleansing. Between the autumn 1784 and the winter up to1785, civilian casualties were about 4000 people from 133 settlements, mostly Hungarians. Among the victims were many women and children. Horea and Closca were executed by the Hungarian authorities by breaking on the wheel on 28 February 1785 at Gyulafehérvár (today Alba Iulia). The third leader Crisan hanged himself on the night before the execution.

Romanii ar fi destepti daca ar muta capitala administeativa si diplomatica a tari la Alba Iulia. Bucuresti ar ramane doar capitala administrativa a sudului tarii asa cum Clujul ar deveni capitala administrativa a Transilvaniei, Iasul al Moldovei, Timisoara a Banatului. Decentralizarea ar putea sa dea un nou impuls in dezvoltarea regionala. Ca pozitie strategica prun centralitatea ei Alba Iulia e perfecta.

Hello Cristian. What are your thoughts about Istanbul? I am very curious. You have very good comments about cities.

I love the city! I would actually live to be able to go back there and film it. A bit crowded for my taste, but every time I have been there people were really nice and the food is simply the best. So, even if there are 18m people living in Istanbul, the place is a cultural and gastronomic masterpiece.

I do not want to hurt the romanian people, but like most transilvanian cities - this city also was built mostly by hungarian and german people.Romania got it just in 1920, although most of the people were already romanian by that time here.

Alba Iulia's gorgeous but this video's terrible. The camerawork darts rapidly from one scene to another so much if made me feel travel sick. A slow walk with a steady camera works perfectly, this video is a mess.

Alba Lulia is another of the Transylvanian cities founded, and cultivated by German colonial immigrants of past centuries. It German name is Karlsburg.
@ekesandras1481
Жыл бұрын
actually it is much older. First it was a Slavic settlement (Belgorod), than it was the administrative and religious center of Hungarian Transylvania (Gyulafehérvár). The town itself was never a German settlement, the Transylvania Saxon were even in constant conflict with the Archbishop of Weißenburg (the old German name). Only in Habsburg times, the town regained importance again, when they built the largest fortification of Transylvania there (and renamed the town Karlsburg in honor of the Habsburg Emperor Karl VI.) ... also with the help of Saxon craftsmen of whom some stayed there, but few. Most of the time the population was half Hungarian, half Romanian. But among the Transylvanian cities Alba Iulia was always only second tier, Cluj/Klausenburg/Kolosvár, Sibiu/Hermannstadt/Nagyszeben and Brașov/Kronstadt/Brasso were always larger and more important and still are. The other second tier towns were Turda/Thorenburg/Torda, Aiud/Straßburg/Nagyenyed, Sighișoara/Schäßburg/Segesvár, Mediaș/Mediasch/Megyes and Târgu Mureș/Neumarkt/Marosvasarhely. All the traditional names of the town, Belgorod, Gyulafehérvár, Alba Iulia, Weißenburg, all mean the same: white castle (of Gyula/Iulia). Bel means "white" in Slavic and gorod means castle/town (just as in Belgrade/Serbia). Fehér means white in Hungarian and vár is castle (just as in Szekesfehérvár in Hungary). Alb is white in Romanian, just as in Cetatea Alba (former Bessarabai, now in Ukraine).
