This trip was fully paid for by ourselves, we weren't given any press discounts or freebies for flights, any accommodation, car hire, anything. I have a few gifted items of clothing but, as always, they will be clearly marked below with "(AD - Gifted)".
TRAVEL DETAILS (full itinerary, tips & FAQ's will all be in the final video):
Flights booked with BA from London Heathrow flying into Calgary (Premium Economy)
Car also booked via BA with Budget Car Hire (We upgraded our car to the Jeep when we arrived)
💚We used carbonoffset.com to offset our milage for hiring such a large gas guzzling car, this is the same site we use to offset our flights and other travel too.💚
FULL ITINERARY:
DAY 1:
- Flight from London to Calgary, land in Calgary at 9:30pm
- Collect car from car hire at airport
- Check into Best Western hotel near airport for a good nights rest
DAY 2:
- Drive to Lake Louise (highway 1 - the trans Canada highway)
- Check in to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (pre booked)
- Lunch in the Hotel in the Lakeview Lounge
- Plain of Six Glacias Tea House Hike
- Drinks in the hotel at Fairview Bar
- Dinner in the Hotel at Alpine Social
DAY 3:
- Early St Agnes Tea House Hike at sunrise
- 1 hour Canoe session on Lake Louise
- Grab a quick bite to eat at the local bakery
- Drive to Jasper on the 93 aka Icefield Parkway
- Stopped for lunch along the way
- Check in to Becker's Chalets in Jasper (pre booked)
- Go into Jasper Town for a wander
- Dinner at the restaurant at Becker's Chalets
DAY 4:
- Maligne Canyon walk
- Medicine Lake (no real hike, just took photos)
- Breakfast in the Waffle House at Maligne Lake
- Moose Lake hike at Maligne Lake
- Miette Springs (but we didn't go in)
- Lunch at a restaurant next to Miette Springs
- Pyramid Lake & Pyramid Island
- Check in to Tekkara Lodge (not pre booked, we just walked in as they had vacancies)
- Dinner in Jasper (booked the following nights accommodation in Banff whilst had wifi)
- Evening in the cabin with the open fire
DAY 5:
- Took 93A (road) the more scenic route which joins back on the Icefield Parkway (main road)
- Sunwapta Falls
- Athabasca Falls
- Columbia Glacier
- Lunch at Columbia Glacier
- Drive to Banff
- Stopped briefly at Lake Peyto but never got out of the car...this is when we saw the bear
- Check in to Moose Hotel & Suites in Banff
- Wandered around Banff Town
- Drinks in an Irish Pub
- Dinner at The Meatball
- Back to the hotel for the hot tub on the roof
DAY 6:
- Breakfast in Pacini (in the Moose hotel)
- Drove to Peyto Lake, but couldn't get in
- Moraine Lake
- Lake shore hike at Moraine Lake
- Lunch at the cafe at Moraine Lake
- Checked into Storm Mountain Lodge (pre booked)
- Drove into Banff for Dinner at Banff Avenue Brewing Company
- Evening in the Cabin with the open fire
DAY 7:
- Breakfast at Storm Mountain Lodge
- Canmore to find the rope swing which is sadly no longer there
- Drive to Cochrane for the Yamnushka Wolfdog Sanctuary
- Intro tour at the wolfdog sanctuary
- Back to Canmore (on the 1A) to the Grizzly Paw Brewing Company
- Lunch at their pub
- Shopping in Roots in Banff
- Drinks in the lodge at Storm Mountain
- Evening in the cabin
DAY 8:
- Lake Peyto at sunrise
- Banff Gondola
- Lunch at Sky Bistro (on top of Sulphur Mountain)
- Sulphur Mountian boardwalk
- Banff Springs Fairmont (just to look around)
- Beavertails in Banff town
- Walk along the river in Banff
- Drove back to Calgary
- Killed some time in the CF Chinook shopping centre
- Back to the airport
