Most elegant sword Albion makes!. You can hammer toothpicks in the crossguard opening to end the rattle.

Feels funny how i have propably cut with this particular sword in 2019 & scratched the tip by cutting through a tatami & overswinging to the concrete floor 😅

Huh. I have an Earl and I've never thought the ridge interfered with a thumb grip. If anything it gives more purchase to not slide around. Just my opinion though everyone's hands are a bit different.

I love mine ! the fact that is a very versatile sword just make it even better in my opinion. i realy feel like i could defand my life with that thing. also I don't fine the thum grip to be bad at all, my thum rest well on the ridge of the blade, probably just a personnal feel there. anyway great review !

Good Review, between this and the spadona which do you think handles better? which is faster?

The Brescia Spadona. The Earl has a bit more blade presence which makes it a bit slower in transitions. That is why I also prefer the Brescia. The difference is not huge though.

The only Albion I own was made in the early 2000s. It's not a sword it's an axe from their first attempt army selling axes. It's a Danish great axe with an 18" edge! It's HUGE! No Danish acmxes that large have been found archaeologically but there is one, possibly 2 but I can't recall, reference (s) in an Icelandic Saga to one with an edge an ell in length, and an ell at the time was 18". I named it "The God Axe" because of it's size. The haft I made out of a staircase hand rail & it stands around 7 feet from butt of haft to the toe of the axe! So while I really want. But can't afford, an Albion sword I do technically own a rare Albion. 😂

Even if a sword struggles with tatami it doesn't mean it's a bad cutter. The trurmestvtest is to cut on fresh pork, skin & all. Pig flesh is very similar to human; their skin being used to train in the medical & tattoo fields. A good sword will go through pork like nothing; which is a bit unnerving! But I have swords with a edge that goes through pork or bamboo easily but struggles with tatami. But to be fair war swords really were not designed to cut tatami.

Having a very freshly slaughtered pig in historically accurate clothing would definitely be the best thing when it comes to "how would the sword behave when used against a human". Tatami is in no way a good analogue for humans in any way and it is not supposed to be. Tatami is a diagnostics tool which tells how the sword moves through the target. My main use for tatami is to diagnose my skills, not the sword. In reviews I comment on how swords cut tatami as it is a very important purchasing factor for many people. Where I see a correlation with tatami cutting capability and "human simulation" cutting capability is cloth. Swords which tend to perform well on tatami tend to perform well with cloth, such as linen.

@@LIERHEMA I agree with what you said! And it is true different swords/edges cut different targets differently. A falchion is better at cutting cloth than an arming sword generally. But yes tatami was always meant as a diagnostic target not an analog for flesh. Again thank you!

Which sword would you choose between Albion Earl and Albion Brescia?
@LIERHEMA

Definitely Brescia. I like that it is a repro of an antique sword and I prefer the handling and aesthetics over the Earl. Purely a preference though, there is no production quality reason for my preference.
