Excellent video and analysis. I get about 218g of carrots a day. Noticed that butternut squash has considerably more cryptoxanthin than red peppers and is much cheaper. 100g yields ~2 mg for squash. Also there is a depreciation during cold storage; ~75% cryptoxanthin remains after one to three weeks in the fridge.

Thanks! As a side note (but related to albumin) I recently added monthly plasma-only donations (800 mls, 25% of plasma) at my blood bank as a follow on to work out of the Conboy lab showing positive tissue changes (reduced fibrosis), reduction in senescent cells (brain), and favorable changes in gene expression. The Conboy changed out 50% of plasma with saline and albumin, but did some testing to show that albumin replacement was not responsible for observed changes. They did not do a dsoe response curve for plasma loss, but effects seem to last at least a month. In any case, I'm 68 and wiling to try the experiment on my self, plus the plasma goes to help patients, as do my platelett donations which I've been doing for a while. I was a concerned about effects on albumin, but found that my albumin was only down a bit, to 4.2 vs normal 4,5, at two days after donation (donation does not replace albumin). Literature says that liver prodiuces about 10 grams per day so I expect it to take only 4 or 5 days to reach equilibrium. Only parameter of concern so far has been low ferritin (7 ng/ml) from repeated doanations over many months, so I am now supplementing with iron. I expect to doate plasma for at 12 months, and do more blood testing. 4.2 vs 4.5 albumin only changes my DNAmPhenoage by about 1 year in negatve direction (overall 52 vs 68).

@@tylero9568 I'm using the DNAmPhenoage (Prof. Morgan Levine) spreadsheet that Michael uses. I can't say the recent plasma donations and prior platlet and whole blood donations played a significant role on the results, or any role, although I have confidence that plasma donation over time will have positive effects. I've been eating a near vegan diet for 10 years (some wild fish), not junk except rarely, exercising moderately daily (no heavy weights, but a lot of walking), timre restricted eating for about 8 years, and a few other minor things. Blood work has been fairly constant for a while but did some improvement after quiting alcohol for 6 weekss in two key parameters important to the Phenoage algorithm, MCW and RDW, but that is just one measurement. I also do other blood work, hormones, iron panel, inflammatory markers besides hsCRP, to make sure I see nothing amiss. Just turned 68 and last DNmPhenaoge was 51. The difference is greater due to my age. I hope to use some of the newer tools to guage aging when they are vetted. I take results of Phenoage with a large grain of salt, though but do think Michael is on the right track, one track at least, of trying to slow aging by knowing the optimal values of cheap to obain biomarks and making changes to tweak this parameters even better. The more I learn the more I'm convinced that exercise and diet are central (not supplements) to slowing aging. Also, some level of fasting thrown in to help with autophagy as we age.

@@conqueragingordietrying123 It's back down to 4.5, so maybe it was too much carotenoids or something else that was causing albumin to be high. That's another evidence that PhenoAge may be very misleading for the ultra healthy. Levine's clock would have given extra points (younger phenotypic age) for Albumin >4.9, while in fact it's associated with an increased all-cause mortality.

Your albumin is (a little) too high, not too low, based on the ACM data. If beta-carotine raises albumin, don't you want to reduce it? How do you decide "optimizing albumin" means raising it? That seems to contradict your ACM data.
@conqueragingordietrying123
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, my average albumin since 2015 (4.94) is a little too high. Compared with my highest beta-carotene intake (67,000 mcg/d), my current intake of 50,000 mcg/d is below that. More specifically, when a nutrient has a net negative correlative score (as beta-carotene does), I aim for below-average intake. My average beta-carotene intake since 2015 is 55 mcg/d, so my current intake of 50,000 mcg/d is below that. In support of that approach, my last albumin measurement (5/9/22) was 4.8.
