I was sixteen when this album came out. I ran from home, from an abusive situation and bad feelings and ran through woods, this album on my ears on one of my first devices able to play MP3. I listened to the album a lot until I moved out and started a new life. It is many years later now and I am in therapy working through what has happened back then. Thank you, music, for storing my memory and keeping it safe so I can come back and give my former self a hug now. You are safe now.

Alcest is a concept band about the "places" Neige would go to as a child, the worlds he would create in his imagination as a young boy. This song is about weeping for the loss of innocence we all experience growing up. It is just so beautiful, so fragile, so pure, and so melancholic.

Where I'm from, time doesn't exist - Seconds become hours, Years of short moments vanish straight away, And our mistaken words are remplaced By music and colours Which float like scents of perfume in the amber air. Don't be afraid, now everything's over. Break the chains of your mortal fears To be liberated from them for ever and ever, And again find peacefulness of former times. Don't be afraid, now everything's over. Let your tears flow one last time To be liberated from them for ever and ever, And meet the world from where you come. I can speak French, although English is my native language... I've made this translation which I hope is read like a poem. Enjoy :)

Perfect music for tripping on mushrooms. This band, when i first heard them, gave me a feeling of what i can only describe as nostalgia for the future. I know its Neige telling stories of the places he went in his childhood imagination but my life wouldn't be the same without this man's beautiful music. I feel perfect where i am in my life, because of this. I had a rough childhood but when it was good it was great.. I'm happily married and we are doing great together. She doesnt share my particular taste in music but she appreciates Alcest and all its otherworldly beauty. Thank you Neige, for being who you are and putting your experiences into music. And thank you Prophecy, for getting this music out into the world

This is a song about childhood or young years generally. Take the lyrics in mind, telling to break the chains of fear and return to the world you came from. The song is literally called "Memories of another world" and how often do different periods of our lives resemble other worlds with their happiness and sorrows? It's no coincidence it's a child on the cover also.
@Lubin-md4ml

Beautiful comment...it just sucks how we all are forced to grow up and become independent one day. I'd do anything to experience my childhood all over again, just for one more time...it was a whole different world where you only knew love and happiness, and not hatred and pain. The whole world seemed innocent to you and you just enjoyed your moment living as a free, happy kid, doing what you loved. But now as an adult, its all different... :(

Souvenirs d'un autre monde, literally means 'souvenirs of another world'. This song can serve as a pointer to that world. Though I see many here relating this song to their past and present life, which is just the same world as you've always lived. Another world, is the unmaterial world, the noumenal world. As opposed to the phenomenal world that has made you miserable.

This music is transcendental and unites mind and soul.
