HE PLAYED SNOOKER THE WAY EVERY MAN WANTED TO PLAY THE GAME, WHAT A LEGEND AND YES EVEN IF HE WAS A MANIAC HE PUT BUMS ON THE SEATS AND WAS INCREDIBLE TO WATCH, IF HE HAD THE RIGHT PEOPLE AROUND HIM AT THAT TIME HE WOULD HAVE WON MORE THAN 2 WORLD TITLES AND HIS LIFE WOULD NOT HAVE TURNED OUT THE WAY IT DID BUT BY GOD WHAT A SHOT MAKER HE WAS- TRUE LEGEND OF THE GAME.

Wonderful player who did things other players wouldn't even contemplate but I wonder if his positional game would compete with today's players. If you watch his famous break against White in 82,his positional play was very loose and only his genius got him through.None of today's players would leave them shots so difficult but also today's players wouldn't even attempt half of them pots which made Higgins unique.

In my opinion Alex Higgins is an overrated snooker player.

Two world titles, beat all the greats in three different eras. Four world finals, four UK finals, five Masters finals, twice Masters winner, UK champ from 7-0 down against Davis in his prime. Defeated Hendry in the '89 Irish Masters final aged 40.. Changed the way the game was played, produced genial shots and cueball spin that is unmatched to this day, even on old heavier cloths with heavy balls... All whilst living a totally hectic life, an alcohol, no modern management or coaching or support structures.. If he was born into today's game he'd have beaten them all on his day and won tournaments, because he was an instinctive champion. Had his erratic nature been curbed and had he been coached from a boy like today where all they do is have constant access to tables and practice every hour God sends, he'd have beaten anybody today, as he did through the 70s and 80s. Mate - lay off the drugs.

@@markdrinkwater1508 you can hardly say Alex Higgins had a glittering career after. He was a gritty competitor, good tactician and wasn't short of bottle. But overall, his results were poor, and he didn't score. He peaked before snooker became mainstream; he was a showman at best.

@@mrsalvatore1234 Another nutcase. Described by Joe Davis, Ray Reardon, Steve Davis, Hendry and O'sulivan as the only true genius on a snooker table - Higgins beat all of the greats more than once and won multiple major titles. Stop making ridiculous comparisons, Higgins came up self taught - like the others of his and previous generations, it wasn't a professional 'sport', with multiple major tournaments and snooker school - managers and professional coaches - and the tables were vastly slower with heavy cloths and balls. The pack didn't open with one contact in those days - it needed to be bashed half a dozen times - hence there wasn't as many high breaks. This doesn't mean that Higgins couldn't hit centuries - he hit many in competition as the equipment changed into the late 70s and 80s. He hit thousands of centuries in exhibitions including many 147s. He did exhibitions playing on the old heavy tables where he'd hit 5 0r 6 centuries back to back. The skill, potting and positional skill and safety play regards the greats of the 60s and 70s.., ie:Reardon, Spencer and Higgins, was as good if not better than today. There isn't a shot Higgins couldn't play - yet he produced magic shots that none of today's players can play, except Trump. There is nothing Higgins could not do, he created shots, he mastered screw and side before anybody else. Higgins and Spencer were doing ridiculous colossal full length screw back shots on the old cloths with the old heavy balls, that is cueing unmatched. Higgins, like Reardon and Spencer - would have had no problem competing in today's game - because they were all-time greats of the game. You people are hilarious.

@@markdrinkwater1508 Alex Higgins statistics: 51 finals - Won 24 86 Centuries Highest Break 142 Total official matches 636 Won: 352 Matches Lost: 274 Matches Win Percentage 55.35% Total official frames: 6281 Won: 3279 Frames Lost: 3002 Frames Win Percentage 52.71% He lost just as much as he won. He was a consistent quarter finalist and semi-finalist. He was above average, statistically better than Ray Reardon and John spencer, but he is certainly not one of the greatest. even Joe Davies had better stats that Alex Higgins and he played a generation earlier. I would also put jimmy white into the category of above average, but White was better than Higgins.
