The 70s and 80s were the days when I enjoyed watching snooker on the TV. The tables were slower, the balls were heavier, and the pockets were tighter. A century break in those days meant something. Not anymore.

@@vinskilindqvist4554 yes in those days was exactly the opposite. Higgins was great to watch and flamboyant but any modern player from the top 100 would destroy him. Now you have players well in their forties still going strong and winning trophies.

They use them in some tournaments, but usually only sparingly. They're so busy showing off their editing skills (where they show the pot and ignore any canon that might simultaneously be happening). They actively dislike anything that would involve less editing (by "editing" I mean switching between different camera angles) even if that shows the game a lot better.

This reminds me of the late seventies/early eighties when we watched snooker in black & white because there was no colour TV! Believe me, it was an interesting experience! The colour is not great in this film but it’s from a long time ago. Good to see the ‘oldies’ again.

I’m sorry - I mistakenly omitted a vital part of this story. At the time we were joint owners of a static caravan on the South coast of Kent. The tv we had there was a small portable black & white set. Being there with a young daughter meant we watched mainly when she was in bed & late night tv seemed to be snooker or darts.

Well that's a naïve perspective. Alex was capable of magic on slow tables, drunk, without modern coaching, nutrition, tooling etc. He had natural talent, something that todays methodology would foster. To say that a multiple time world champion (who beat Reardon, a 6 time world ch., 60% of the times they played) wouldn't even get a ranking is ludicrous.
