The Alex Theatre originally opened in September 1925 as the Alexander Theatre. It featured vaudeville performances, plays, and silent movies on a single screen.
The unique interior has distinct neo-classic Greek and Egyptian architectural elements, similar to the Greco-Egyptian period of Ptolemaic Egypt. A long walkway and courtyard separating the ticket booth from the lobby was inspired after the famous Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
Burbank City Hall Building:
It was designed in the Moderne or Art Deco style, and was completed in 1943. It features art deco detailing and more than 20 types of marble, which can be found in the city seal on the floor, the trim, walls and in the treads and risers of the grand stairway.
Burbank Water & Power Building:
A splendid example of the Late Moderne style.
It was constructed in 1949. Its main entrance is vertical in orientation, with a dramatic double-height glass wall fronted by a concrete canopy with four simple yet monumental supports. The supports frame and emphasize a wonderful Art Moderne-style frieze depicting Water, Light, and Power.
