Rojan is played by Warren Stevens, who looks so comfortable in the captain's chair that one could easily imagine him as a Starfleet captain or admiral in another episode! Stevens earlier appeared in Forbidden Planet (1956) a film that was an enormous influence on Star Trek (and worth reacting to, if I may please suggest, Alexxa!) Stevens played Doc Ostrow, the prototype for Drs. Boyce and McCoy--the sarcastic ship's doctor who is best friends with the captain. (Sound familiar?)

7:36 Any student of 3D geometry recognizes these shapes to be what results when one combines the hexahedron (better known as the cube) and the octahedron. Consider, the octahedron has the same number of faces as the hexahedron has vertices. The _hexahedron_ has the same number of faces as the _octahedron_ has vertices. Each object has the same number of edges. All of this makes it possible, if one has a hexahedron made up of six squares and an octahedron made up of eight equilateral triangles, and the edges are all the same length, to take the two apart, reassemble them into a single shape, and have no gaps or pieces left over. The shape in the image currently on screen is the result.

The upcoming "Assignment: Earth" references the "slingshot effect through time" used in "Tomorrow is Yesterday." At this point, Star Trek is becoming more self-aware of its evolving canon and growing legacy. It's developing a sense of history and continuity, a new mythology that it will start building, developing, and cultivating for many years ahead.

Actually, to be able to reduce people to a small shape and restore them later would be a great way to put your crew on the shelf during extremely long journeys. They don't die, but they also don't need air, water or food. And they don't age no matter how much time goes by. But in that condition one is at the mercy of who or whatever is handling you. You don't want a butterfingers on that job.

Worse, what if someone has the munchies, then starts foraging around the ship for a snack to take off the edge, and then confuses a reduced crewman--who was casually set aside near the snacks on a rec room table--with some sort of crunchy cookie junk food?

31:01 Mark! 913 Views + Mine! 🎉 Thumb Up #111! You're welcome, and thanks! 😊 Notes: Ahem. Hmm. Back in the days before ot would be a possibly bleeped word, there was a Black comedian who told "Star Trek" jokes, making the late night talk show circuit. One joke was about this episode and in it, he had Kirk asking Spock for analysis. Spick says, "The n*gger is a cube, Captain!" That was back in the 1970s or 1980s. 🤔 Tropes! This episode avoided the "Red Shirt Trope" and the "Black Guy Dies First Trope" with one action! 😊 However, the girl still died as part of that trope. 😢 But at least she wasn't just another dead blonde, she was a brunette! The episode is another "Lost Technology" episode. The ship gets a free upgrade but after this episode we never see it or hear about it again. There are viewers who kept track of the technological advances that were used only once. 😁 Synthehol would prevent Scotty's ploy from working! 😊 Bye-bye for now! 🙏🖖

There was an exceptional issue of the late, magnificent DC Comics movie-era "Star Trek" comic (way back in the '90s) where Admiral Kirk realizes that over the years his crew has largely become ciphers to him--except for his oldest, closest friends, his bridge staff. He resolves to correct that! When a young ensign in Security is accidentally killed on a landing party mission, Admiral Kirk goes out of his way, making it his personal mission to learn whatever he can learn about the poor crewman from his colleagues and closest friends, listening to incredible stories about the slain junior crewman, before delivering his personal tribute before the assembled crew, a powerful, deeply moving eulogy for the ensign in the closing pages of that issue, celebrating his humanity and his life, as the entire crew mourns his sudden passing. I dearly miss the old DC Star Trek comics! :)

Just leaving the 'cubes' around to get kicked around doesn't make sense. If they wanted to kill them they would have. Mistake 1. Also how long can a person survive in this form. erosion contamination, ect. Not forever. They would degrade to the point they couldn't be restored alive eventually. Just a thought. An Okay episode. still no City of the Edge of Forever but ok. Episodes like this is probably why John Meridyh Lucas wasn't asked back in season 3. No no ok. Mediocre. Not good..not bad.
