Your oil change video will save me quite a bit of time. I had taken apart all of the air induction system. You showed me how to merely raise the entire system and use a block of wood to hold the air system. Brilliant.

Thanks for the demo on these ST springs. Doesn't look as dramatic a drop as it does on the later year models, because 2017's were lower anyways, but still looks great. Curious about your Tecnico wheels...did you have them re-sprayed or powder-coated? They look darker than the dark grey-ish stock ones I see.
@chasinglimits

You are bang on about the subtle lowering on the ‘17 models, but still noticeable. As for the Tecnicos, they were redone in black, low gloss, but will have to get them redone after new tires get installed as they are chipping from the rocks.

Actually doing this now , watching your video one thing you didn't cover was using the pass through socket how annoying it is trying to remove that nut because the shock shaft spins , you need a 9mm open end to hold that while finishing it . It sucks
@chasinglimits
3 жыл бұрын
I actually used the vise grip with tape around it to hold the shock body as it was very hard to fit a 9mm in there. That worked out much easier and you don’t need a lot of pressure from the vise grips to hold the shock body either, resulted in zero marks on it.

How is the ground clearance with the splitter. I have a standard version and I've caught that already on a dip in the road at speed. Do you think these springs would make that worse or would the greater spring rate actually prevent this ? Great video by the way ! :-)
@chasinglimits
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you appreciate it! 👍 Well it certainly sits lower so chances I would say are higher at bottoming it out. I personally haven’t hit anything but I am also more careful. But you are right the higher rates do help so you don’t bottom out as easily especially when in full stiff mode for shocks, feels super firm.

@@chasinglimits Thanks for the response. I think you are right. I am particularly careful, but I just got caught out at speed. I actually seen the dip coming, but there was nothing I could do. @@stevenbrennan8017 It happens and nothing you can do about it, but I try to not speed too much on unfamiliar roads either which would help. But you’re right, it’s better not to brake just before a dip as your front end will dive into it more, best to just let off the gas and hope for the best lol

Thank you! I got my bolt and nut from the Alfa dealer, so they are genuine parts. Part number for the bolt is 68301476AA02 and for the nut to go along with that bolt is 68300431AA. Honestly though, if you are careful not to strip the bolts you may get away not needed to replace any so can be retightened once more before having to be replaced, but that’s up to you how comfortable you are with that. The rest of the bolts and nuts for front they did not have in stock so I reused them, with no issues.

Great video. I have one question. How did the wheel alignment go? I read so often that the back is tricky with lowered springs and often the tires get used up unevenly. Was it straight forward on the back to get the alignment done? Thanks, Marco
@chasinglimits
Жыл бұрын
I never actually got an alignment done after for a couple reasons. One is that I never took any of the suspension components apart for the rear, just the old spring out, new spring in, so nothing got changed there. Secondly, I monitored the tire wear because I needed to replace them anyways and figured I would get alignment done right after I put on new tires. Well they ended up lasting longer than expected and the west is still even which I’m surprised at. I can let you know once I do get it done as I’ll need to get new tires put on this summer though.

Is this for the front or rear spring? If you still have it apart, I would redo the whole thing and instead of marking it maybe etch into the paint so it doesn’t rub off, or use permanent marker. Without marking it is like working blindly and you have to be very lucky to get it bang on first try.

@@bluequadrifoglio6057 this is the first time hearing about not being able to use the factory end links. They must have a much more aggressive drop.
