My dealer just told me my 3 year service is due and this job is part of it. Told me its a 12 hour job and would cost me over 3k. I love this car but that kind of bill is a first for me. After watching your video I can see where that time and money goes. Hopefully whichever tech does my job will have your knowledge. Thanks for the vid!

To be honest 12 hours is overkill. For 3k you should be getting more than just the belt service. We charge 8 hours for the belt service, then add spark plugs, filters, oil change, brake fluid flush and multi point inspection it usually comes in around $3200 plus tax and I’m in California.
@securehealtheap

@@hycastro Actually they did all of what you listed. It was a 3 year service no just the belt. $3500 total. Unfortunately someone did not attach a hose clamp well enough and by Saturday nightfall I had coolant running out of the front left bumper. Of course being Sunday the dealership was closed next day so I had to stay an extra night. They got me flatbedded next morning and got it fixed and pressure tested but I missed a half day of work. The closest dealership to me is 100 miles away. Car has been great since though.

Yes I have and it’s usually a turbocharger issue. Sometimes it takes a while to get the code to set but it’s usually a underboost code. In order to get it to set you have to drive the car hard. The ecm needs to see that the recommended boost requested is not being supplied. Driving normal will not cause this code to pop. Diverter valve also causes this issue.
@gtvsim086

is it advisable to replace the radiator hoses due to the engine heat after 30k miles? Also should you go deeper to swap out timing chain and guides? Also the tensioner for the serpentine belt looks a lot like the mechanical tensioner on the Busso engines. Am I correct?
@hycastro

No hoses need to be replaced unless they are leaking, timing chain and guides are on the back of the engine and never need to be serviced, the serpentine belt tensioner is a spring loaded mechanical part.

Followed your steps to a tee! Thanks man. My car was in a crash and some of the coolant hoses broke so I changed them also while doing this. Before I fill her back up with the costly petronas coolant, i was wondering if it is possible to check there are still no leaks with plain water or is that a big no?! Obviously If no leaks I would drain the water via the plugs on side of radiator and fill it back with 50% patronas and 50 % water.
@hycastro
Жыл бұрын
You can do that with water to check for leaks. When you drain the water and go to refill with coolant do a 75/25 mixture since you will have water in the engine that you cannot drain out. That way you should end up with the perfect 50/50 mix.

2 жыл бұрын
How many miles does it have and have you done a fuel induction cleaning? GDI engines need that done at least every other year or 15k miles. Serpentine belt is just for controlling the accessories on the engine such as the alternator, water pump, and a/c compressor but you do want to make sure you take care of that belt on time because if it breaks you will be left stranded.

@hycastro
2 жыл бұрын
Every 4 years or 30,000 miles. The symptoms of a bad belt are usually the same for any belt but seeing that this is such a pain to get to and the engine is around 40-50k you don’t want to run the risk of it tearing and allowing your water pump to stop operating thus overheating your engine. I always say better safe than sorry.

With any new car I always make sure to baby it for the first 1,000 miles which I know is a little overkill but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I know the Hellcats and Ram trx have the mileage monitored by the ecm so for the first 500 miles, and it’s only allowed so much boost and has 500hp available. After 500 miles, track mode is able to be enabled and the other 200hp is available. Yes I know Dodge and Alfa are not the same but FCA is all under the same umbrella so I would just baby it.
