To my loyal subscribers: As many of you know, I'm a public educator and during this pandemic, I'm learning to adapt to the many changing conditions that affect our schools. This means that a large portion of my time is now spent prepping to ensure that I provide the best quality instruction for my students and providing them with the support they need. With the free time that I have, I am choosing to focus that time on my family (this includes both Smokey and Snuggles). Please know that although I may not respond to your questions/comments, I do read them and appreciate the support and stories that some of you share on here. With everything going on, I just have to decide where to spend my time and find that right balance. Those of you who have been following Smokey and I for a while now, I know you will understand. I just wanted to put this out there. For those who don't understand and if this frustrates you, well I guess that is too bad. P.S. if you want more frequent updates, follow Smokey on instagram at wingsnpaws_ (yes, you have to put the underscore).

My parrot loves beans/peas that are still in their pods. That way he has to shred the pod to get to the bean/pea inside. It also involves barely any effort on my part!

He has them videos in the playlist. Get your bird to like you with out your hands and work up to it. I just got a new bird the green cheek parrot. I can't touch him right now as well. Just talking and being able to move around your bird so you can go in or out it's cage is ground zero. Hope it works out😀

This is good to know. My goffin will not bother with any greens unless it’s warm. He eats only warm plate food. Even his pellets I have to grind and pour in water then heat up that’s the only way. But I never thought of just having it there to keep his mind moving

Hi! I don’t give my bird a food bowl. I hide the food around his cage. He has to find it before he starves (he thinks), so he has now got quite good and very agile. I love watching out for new ideas thank you 😃

would this be fine for a conure sized bird? I keep hearing that conures tend to choke on stringy items.
@tzxazrael
4 жыл бұрын
nah, "stringy items" meaning like... cotton ropes and toys and the like. sprouts would be fine, because thy can just digest it if they swallow it (instead of simply flinging it around lol)
@PapercraftsbyCindyellen
4 жыл бұрын
@@tzxazrael my little green chicken (pineapple conure) loves sprouts, because she loves stringy things and eating actual string will get caught in her crop. Food gets crunched and eaten and thus digested - not caught. I'm gonna try the millet seeds.

hi, I use to have a bond with my cockatiel, I could make him fly to my hand and he would sing cheerfully and even my friends could make him come to them. He was never a great fan of my hands but he wouldn't bite my hand harshly. One day I gave him a shower with a spray bottle ( I didn't spray it directly on his face, I would let the mist fall gently) and he wouldn't come to my hand anymore. What do I do?

Love your helpful videos! I have a blue front Amazon parrot. You're helping me make his life better. Just wanted to send out a word of caution to your viewers. I have a friend whose 7 yr. Old African Grey recently passed away suddenly with no illness or warning. The vet said that the probable cause (without doing an autopsy) was that the bird had ingested string from his toy, and it filled up his crop. He had asked my friend if the bird had a toy in his cage with string, which the bird did and chewed on it all the time, and said he had seen that in other birds on which he had done autopsies. I immediately took my birds toy with string out of his cage. My friend was devastated upon the loss of her pet because she is handicapped and homebound. Hope this helps to save other birds.

Hi there,my name is Renata and I live in UK,I followed your videos about Smokey as I had an African Grey parrot for around 7 years and then I gave it away for adoption in a good hands and he actually lives in a town not far from our place.... anyways I experienced also a situation when my bird flew out which was my fault, it happened at arpund 10 am so I immediately ran after him and watched which direction he flew and I tried to follow him as well as I could because obviously I could only go around the houses and ptivate gardens etc unlike him through the open space above...luckily he stayed in our area and with my persistence when I kept walking around our area asking people and calling his name and looking for him so after a few hours I was lucky enough to find him.... I thought I would share this experience with you and I can imagine how you must have felt then...it is now more than one year ago when Smokey flew away but do not give up on him as there is always possibility that you will be reunited one day 😊 once for all....I do believe that as this is the only thing you can do, keep searching and keep posting videos even a year after her escape and post another and another one regularly every so often say twice per year so to remind people to have ears and eyes open 😊
