Le meilleur interprete de Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt et Brahms. C'est si simple que ça. Merci Maître.

If elected President on my write-in campaign to earn that crappy job, my first act will be to sign an executive order prohibiting ads in the middle of Beethoven videos. No one else can see that this a needed step in the renewal of our fair land!

Gulda is great in this, but you have to acknowledge this is a one of Brendel's better performances.

On est confondu par la puissance d'imagination de Beethoven. L'interprétation est excellente bien que certaines variations soient, à mon avis, jouées un peu trop vite.

would someone have details about this amazing recording .Brendel is not my favorite pianist, most of his output from Philips seems flawless but lack of impact or expression,i.e,boring,This one totally alter his image---rhythemic n rebato tempo employed plus tough n clear left hand touching................i compare another post Arq.made convinced that ! moreover, this low sampling 240p sound wonderfully good,so! i really want to know the occasion how this marvel happened

I first discovered Brendel in the mid 60s through the entire Beethoven series (Sonatas, Concerti, various concert works) he did for VOX. To this day I prefer these to any of his later Philips recordings. The Philips discs vary: some are great, some good, and some quite quirky. The sound on them is also unsatisfying. Some sound like they were recorded in the Grand Canyon, in the bathroom at the end of the hall. Often the microphone is too close. I'm no expert on recording techniques, but I still treasure the old Vox and the slightly later Vanguard recordings.

@@assindiastignani To be honest, I find the Turnabout-recordings technically inferior to the later Philips-editions... Musically speaking, Brendel is making his "exploration-tour" through Beethovens musical universe and you hear the pleasure of discovery and wonder in these registrations. The later Philips recordings are more based on in-depth re-discovering and contemplation of a revisited paradise. These interpretations are, to me, superior in depth and expression to all other interpretations I know... and only possibly matched by Arrau...🤔🤔🤔

I recently listened to Alfred Brendel: the VOX/Turnabout Beethoven Sonata No. 32 Op.111 and then to the final (3rd) version he recorded for Philips in December 1995. There was a world of difference (as you would expect as the former cycle was recorded in Vienna 1959-1964). The years of experience thinking about and playing the music had transformed the piece. I grew up with a few of the Turnabout recordings but certainly Op.111 seems simply like a run-through now. I may also say that I am surprised to see an adjective such as "boring" with regard to Brendel. No pianist has thought more about making the music of the Classical era come alive. Just look, for example, at his masterclass at the New England Conservatory in 2009 on the "Eroica" Variations or - to move on to the Romantics - a stupendous lesson to two young pianists on the Liszt Sonata at the Royal College of Music, London (both on KZitem).
