This isn't music... This is something words can't explain

Khan Sahib played this for the Connoisseur Society in mid 60s. True to the title, this IS music for meditation. This Bilaskhani Todi is incomparable. Spiritually you must be very strong to withstand all the storms Khan Sahib takes you through. Or else you get blown to insanity. Thanks for making this available for the rest of the world.

I agree with you on this music being for meditation. However, if one is insane before listening to this, the storm is as blissful as a cloud of pink and yellow and orange. Peace dawg. Ruf Ruf Ruf.

Rupa ji , I agree with you in toto. When I listened to this, I was drawn in a deep state of bliss,on the verge of losing relevance of the world around. This music is very close to Aatman !

Roopa Chandrashekar...Beautiful comment "spiritually you must very strong to withstand all the storms Khan Sahib takes you through"...!! He does not play the sarod, but plays your heart strings and makes you cry..every single time. God gifted talent.

Ustad takes you to heaven when you are still sitting and listening to this unique rendering in your room or wherever. His badhat of the raga and selection of sequence of swaras is unmatched. I fully agree with B hazra. After you listen to Ustad it is not possible to listen to any other sarod player. Devi Saraswati has rained her blessing on Ustad. Kudos!!!!!

This is music of the highest order. Ustad Ali Akbar takes you to the sublime, and you get lost in it.It leaves you with a void so great when it is over. Meditative music at best. Bilaskhani Todi is never better performed before or after this.

I wonder how is it possible to hear any other sarod players. Ustadji has deified sarod or perhaps sarod has deified Ustad-ji. Sarod doesn't sound, so pure, so heavenly and blissful from anybody else. It will take centuries to even realize just how unimaginably beautiful Swarasamrat's music is, let alone play it.

From first Stoke to last a flaw less masterpiece. A must for listeners, musicologists and musicians. This is what classical music is all about, no gimmicks, no circus with strings, only opening the soul of Bilaskhani. The best, he had hot line with the Almighty

No disrespect to the great Ustad (Ali Akbar Khan) but I find Ustad Amjad Ali Khan & Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra's tone production, dexterity over the instrument & style of 'laya'-bound 'gat'-s, immensely attractive. They are easily my two most favourite sarod-artists, especially because of their consistent high standards. That said, this recording of Bilaskhani Todi is beautiful.

@@jijo2002 100% Agreed on Buddhadev Dasgupta. But even Buddhadeb Dasgupta admired Ustad Ali Akbar Khan as his prime idol and wondered how much of a genius would it take to create a raag like chandranandan. Amjad Ali Khan is plain boring, with very predictable raagdari and diri-diri dara-dara and dir-dara-dara taankari, he plays like a soul-less machine. Overall, Ustad Ali Akbar is the undoubtedly the greatest musician of the last century. His disciples became some of the finest musicians of their times, namely: Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Sisir kana Dhar Choudhury, Pt. Brijbhusan Kabra, Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Ust. Alam Khan, Aashish Khan and Dhyanesh Khan. Even Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri agrees that it is most difficult to accompany Ali Akbar Khan sahib, because of the sheer unpredictability of his layakari.

This is not khan Sahib s hands playing a musical instrument. It is khan Sahib s soul singing what Tansen felt when hisson Bilaskhan died. I am fortunate to be a student of Khan sahib and know how his music lessons ,communication with students and thinking revolved around spiritual realm. There was only one Khan Sahib
