Another clue to Ashe’s true intentions is when the face hugger leaves Kane’s face and they’re searching for it in the room. If you notice, Ashe turns around to see if anyone else is watching him, then uses the probe to push the dead face hugger onto Ripley because he knows that she doesn’t trust him. There is a lot of sexual imagery in this film. When they spot the large alien seated as they first enter the ship, he is seated with a large phallic-like structure coming out of his body. The underside of the Nostromo is kind of reminiscent of a women’s breasts. The face hugger looks like a weird combination of a vagina and a penis. The grown alien has a second set of teeth that shoot out at it’s victim, and a tail that slinks around Lambert’s back to do who knows what. Since Ashe admires the alien, he wants to imitate it’s violent sexual behavior. He, quite possibly, doesn’t have a penis (since he is a robot) so he uses a porno magazine to assault her orally. And, of course the face hugger that assaults Kane by thrusting its organ down his throat. Weird stuff, but interesting.

Fun/Scary Fact: The Xenomorph is actually based on a real life insect, the Tarantula Hawk which is a wasp from the southwest United States. It reproduces by hunting tarantulas, paralyzing them with it’s stinger, dragging them into the spiders hollow, laying an egg on the spiders belly, then the egg hatches and the larvae devours the spider from the inside out. Also the reason why so many of the doorways and halls look almost vaginal or even phallic it’s because the art director HR Geiger wanted to evoke psychosexual feelings of horror. Because when you think about it the Xenomorph reproduces by forcing itself onto an unwilling host, impregnating it, and then killing the “mother”.
@h.4315
2 ай бұрын
I think what makes it more genius is the fact that the unwilling host is male (Kane). For a trope where the women are typically the targets of such assault, this imagery of men being the unwilling vulnerable targets and making them "cross their legs" as the screenwriter says.
@synaesthesia2010
2 ай бұрын
@@h.4315 it wasn't written for Kane to be male, in the original screenplay there was a note saying that the genders of all the characters are interchangeable. also, a neat little detail in the debriefing scene in Aliens, you can see on Lambert's profile that she was born male, making Lambert a transgender

@@synaesthesia2010 Yes, I understand that the characters weren't written to be male, which is probably why everyone is referred to by presumably their surnames. That said, I was referring to final product where Kane was casted as a male character. If Kane was female, the facehugger and chestburster scene would have just been brushed off as your everyday horror scene where women were attacked by male monsters. But because he was male, it makes the men in the audience squeamish at the metaphor of that sexual imagery.

This script is so finely crafted. One of my favorite lines of dialouge is so subtle, many still miss it after multiple views. The lines are treated as throwaways, but they speak volumes. Ripley is already suspicious of Ash. When he pulls a motion detector out of his butt, (not something a tugboat typically carries) and claims to have cobbled it together, Ripley subtlety calls him on it: Ripley: "What does it key off of?" Ash: (pauses) "Micro changes in air density." Ripley accepts this and the scene continues. Later, the detector picks up Jones behind a sealed door. Ripley's line is low, again almost a throwaway; "Micro-changes in air density my ass." It shows Ash was lying. And that Ripley knows. But more than that, why lie? Because he didn't know how it worked. Because he didn't just build it. He didn't build it at all. He already had it. ...and all that that implies. ... In a couple of throwaway lines. Brilliant writing.

I saw this in the theaters when I was 7, and subsequently many years afterwards. This movie was revolutionary. Nothing like it was on movie screens prior to this, and then the main survivor and hero being a female just broke the mold. Weaver was a newbie to the industry and I am sure most people when see it the first time thought Tom Skerritt (he John, Ian were bigger names) would be the hero and was shocked when he was taken out. Having the person that destroyed the alien being a woman was ground breaking, it was amazing. I just loved Yaphet Kotto's performance in the movie. After the second movie that's when I think they started or cemented the writing of books and fan fiction regarding the Alien premise. I think many of the designs were based on some German illustrative art works, but the movie itself was a beautiful collaborative work O'Bannon's story and Scott's directing.

What I love about reactions from people like you guys is that you actually are interested in filmmaking. Commenting on the sets, ( none of that CGI and overdone green screen crap, which lacks creativity honestly)how it was done, the model work, the time and creativity that went into it. And lets not forget the incredible Jerry Goldsmith, who composed the score. Many people watch movies, and don't care about those things, which is great, and you have fun with it, but I'm a "making of" and behind the scenes kinda guy, and I appreciate others who are into the art and technique of making the movie.

One of things young people don’t realize when watching older movies like this, (especially other people that like “this slow”, “it’s not that scary”, these older movies came out when No One had ever seen anything like this before, And, they would be watching him n a huge dark Theater, surrounded by Strangers, when the words Psychopaths and Serial Killers were new terms. And also, if you watch in the theater, you don’t get to take a break, or catch your breath, which is why theater goers really did piss their pants, or throw up, or faint.

One of the, if not THE greatest Sci-Fi/Horror films of all time. Have you guys scene Prometheus? It will explain the giant "Space Jockey" found on the derelict organic ship...a far inferior film, but it will put a few of the pieces together for you. I honestly think it should have never been explained in order to keep the mystique. Also look up H.R. Giger's art. He was the lead artist on the film for all of the Alien designs. Absolute Master.

Fun Fact: *Kenner* now *Hasbro* was the first toy company to have an action figure i.p that was based on an R-rated movie. A loose "Big Chap" Xenomorph goes for anywhere from $150.00 to $250.00 and packaged from fair at $250.00-to $500.00 to near mint to mint. 1200 to 5000.00 The NECA toy company has the property. Along with almost every horror property known to man. The Alien & Predator lines are the best selling to date. They have also paid homage to Kenner in their retro lineup with both the alien & aliens lineup.

Hey gang, just a little sidenote they didn’t actually shoot the body out of the ship how it works is since space is a constant vacuum when they open the hatch air inside the chamber automatic shoots out into space so that’s why the body literally jettisoned out.🌈 the more you know

Thanks for the reaction. God bless practical effects, real sets, and real suspense. Please react to " The Elephant Man " starring John Hurt (chest burster victim in Alien) as the tragically disfigured man striving to lead a normal life with the aid of his doctor played by Anthony Hopkins. It's an award-winning film based on a true story. Also react to the film "2001: A Space Odyssey" and its sequel "2010: The Year We Make Contact".

That funny, on the spot run that Ash does is an extremely subtle hint that he's not human. The Robots in the alien isolation game can be seen doing this and it's suggested that it's a preventative maintenance operation to get lubricants moving through joints ect. In factorys they'll often set machines running through their full motion of travel for no other reason than to prevent them seizing.

@emilywilhite5807 that's why you should use your car air conditioning in the winter months a few times because the seals will dry up and the gas escapes. I use surface grinders at work and the reciprocating beds are always a bit slow in the morning. One in particular is quite old and if we don't use it for a couple of months it seizes up so every Friday we set it running even though we're not cutting anything with it. I guess Ash needs as much TLC as any other machine.

JUMP SCARE MOMENTS RIGHT AT THE INTRO 2:44 Second PERGE 14:33 THE CHEST BURSTER SCENE: 24:24 is one the greatest REACTION JUMPSCARES ever in Cinema history because it never fails to get the right reaction the audience members... And what makes the scene so realistic is that it was realistic... Scott, John Hurt, and the Actor who played Parker knew about the what was about to happen.... Sigourney and The other actress who played Lambert didn't... So the reactions you saw were real... Purge moment IV 29:34 ALIEN JUMP SCARE 34:05 What's wrong with Ash? 36:20 Okay THIS NEXT SCENE 41:36 NEEDS A LITTLE EXPLANATION.... AND I'LL BE AS "PG" WITH THIS... EVERY XENOMORPH THAT GETS BIRTH PERTAINS THE MEMORIES OF THE PERSON THAT IT CAME OUT OF... John Hurts Character had a bit of a crush on Lambert well, that memory Carried over when the XENOMORPH was birthed. So .... In that "scene" Let's just say..... That Wasn't his tail...... Hotdog through a donut you know... Basically the XENOMORPH was JERKING OFF VIOLENTLY..... Tara is a Lucky Lucky ✨ star 46:27
