This version of the video was taped on June 24, 2003, during the third annual BET awards that were held at the Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Blvd.
The initial concept of the music video was a compilation of the band "crashing" multiple events in the greater L.A. area. This was split up into three parts:
-- Friday, June 20, 2003: Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera concert at the Staples Center:
The bandmembers piled their gear onto a flatbed truck and headed for the parking lot, while scouts were planted amongst fans outside of the center to take notice of the guards. One of the AAF agents would then tear off the fake KAAF 103.2 radio station banner from the side to unveil the band, who then ripped into the song, much to shocked reactions of fans of both Justin and Christina.
-- Sunday, June 22, 2003: The West Hollywood Gay Pride Parade on Santa Monica Blvd.:
The band dressed the truck as a giant ant - complete with mandibles, antennae and legs - and entered it as a float. The band garnered mostly positive reactions from participants of the parade. Which can not be said of the anti-gay protesters they came into contact with at the venue, which resulted in lots of yelling and gesturing.
All would culminate into the big event the following Tuesday.
The band had to get permission from the city to shoot the video across the street of the theater on the rooftop of the El Capitan building. They clamed the intention to shoot the video the day after the awards, spending the day of the event allegedly setting up equipment.
Director Marc Klasfeld obtained press passes for both himself and crew members to catch reactions from both artists and venue security.
With a less-than-perfect plan to escape authorities and having the door to the roof deadbolted, the band managed to perform the song a few times before the police managed to get to the roof to apprehend the band and the crew and shut the operation down.
The news anchor seen at the end of the video is Sam Rubin, from KTLA5.
