The Last Stand at Orion's Gate
Chapter 1: The Invasion Begins
It was a quiet day on Earth, the sky clear, and the cities bustling with life. No one could have predicted that this day would be the beginning of the end.
Commander Sarah Lawson was at her post on the orbital station *Orion's Gate*, a massive space fortress that served as Earth’s first line of defence. She was a seasoned soldier, having seen her fair share of battles, but nothing could have prepared her for what was about to happen.
The alarm blared, and red lights flashed across the control room. “Incoming! Unidentified ships approaching fast!” shouted Lieutenant Jake Thompson, his voice filled with panic.
Sarah snapped into action. “All hands to battle stations! This is not a drill!”
On the screen before them, hundreds of alien ships appeared out of nowhere, their sleek, dark hulls cutting through space like knives. They were unlike anything humanity had ever seen, and they were heading straight for Earth.
“Get the defence grid online!” Sarah ordered, her mind racing. “We can’t let them get past us!”
As the alien ships closed in, Orion’s Gate unleashed its full arsenal. Cannons fired, missiles streaked through the void, and energy shields flared to life. The station shook as the first waves of enemy fire struck its hull.
But the alien ships were relentless. They swarmed around the station, outmanoeuvring Earth’s defences with terrifying speed and precision. One by one, Earth’s ships fell, and the enemy drew closer to their prize: Earth itself.
“We’re being overwhelmed!” Jake shouted, his hands flying over the controls as he tried to keep up with the barrage of incoming data.
Sarah gritted her teeth. “We can’t give up now. If they take *Orion’s Gate*, Earth is doomed. We have to hold the line!”
But deep down, she knew they were fighting a losing battle. The aliens were too strong, too advanced. Their ships were unlike anything human technology could match.
As the station’s defenses began to falter, Sarah made a desperate decision. “Jake, activate the last resort protocol.”
Jake’s eyes widened in shock. “But Commander, that will destroy the station!”
“It’s our only chance,” Sarah replied grimly. “We can’t let them take Earth.”
With a nod, Jake entered the command code, and a deep rumble echoed through the station. The last resort protocol was a self-destruct sequence, designed to turn Orion’s Gate into a massive bomb. It was a weapon of last resort, meant to be used only when all hope was lost.
“Prepare to evacuate,” Sarah ordered, but she knew it was too late. The alien ships were too close, and there was no time to escape.
As the countdown began, Sarah took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She had known this day might come, and she was ready to do whatever it took to protect Earth.
“Goodbye, Earth,” she whispered, as the station’s core began to overload.
