My favorite movie of all time. So remember she was out there for over 50 years, so they people went out to survey and terraform the planet years after the last movie. And it's not really mysterious that the aliens didn't show up, because there were no aliens to show up. Not without someone finding and going to the derelict ship. It takes a host for a facehugger for there to be aliens running around. It's a big planet so the chance of a colonist from this one spot on the planet to find the ship now that the beacon was turned off in the first movie, was almost impossible. Not until Burke sent them to the location. And they weren't studying them or liars, not until the father got one of them on his face and they brought him back. They were studying them to find out how to stop them. They took those off victims. This movie really spells out the life cycle of the Xenomorphs. You see how they function as a hive. This is a very good pairing with the first one. The first one being the Horror movie, this one being the action movie. Now if you want to end it on a happy note, stop here. But if you want to see Ripley's complete story arc...watch the next two. I really love 3 and 4. Some fans don't like them, but I think they are both great. Sigourney's acting is phenomenal in both of the next sequels.

Salvage is an old maritime/naval rule/law, that's actually still in use today, as far as I know. The way it works is this: if you find an abandoned ship in unowned/international waters, and there is no one on board, you can claim salvage rights to the vessel. This means the owner of the craft has to pay you something like 60-80% of the value of the ship, or let you take ownership of it entirely. However, to claim salvage rights, the craft has to be entirely abandoned. If you find an unconscious but alive person aboard, there is no salvage. If you find someone that lost both arms and legs to a freak accident, but are still breathing, no salvage. If you find the entire crew aboard it, but they've all died from a mysterious disease, you get salvage rights - because everyone on board being dead is the same as abandoned. Finding the entire crew violently murdered would also make salvage rights possible, but the foul play of that makes it a very difficult road and you'd have to find some way to irrefutably prove you were in no way involved in their murder. So, the comment about salvage rights is them remarking how there goes their shot at salvage rights, because Ripley is still aboard and still alive. This is a big deal, especially here on Earth, because most ships you'd find in international waters are worth millions or billions. Salvage rights also applies to military vessels, and the government the ships belongs to has to pay you that percentage of the value of the ship. Likewise, it also applies to things like oil tankers or cargo ships. Now, if you read all that, you know what the comment about salvage was talking about!

Burke actually survived for a while, there is a deleted scene where Ripley runs into him while cocooned and after incubation by a face-hugger when looking for Newt inside the hive at the end of the movie, and leaves him with a grenade to basically take himself out. Also, the world of LV-426 is actually a cross between a moon and a planet (also known as a "ploonet"), and is protected by the magnetic field of the gas-giant planet it is orbiting, which itself, is orbiting in the goldi-locks zone of a star. There are several of those "ploonets" in science fiction, like Yavin 4 in Star Wars: A New Hope, as well as the world of Pandora in James Cameron's more recent Avatar movie franchise. The atmosphere processor basically took in LV-426's original atmosphere, and re-arranged the gasses to make the atmosphere breathable, and help to increase the overall pressure of the atmosphere, meaning people could now get out without having to wear a space-suit.

Alien 3 (do the SE if you watch it) is a completely different kind of film that borders on Drama vs Scifi horror or action like the first two. I like it quite a bit. Brad Pitt (the actor) also liked it and is what made him want to work with Fincher on the movie Seven (who disowned it because of studio interference). But it is definitely not as well liked as the first two movies, and is especially a hard pill to swallow for fans who consider the second movie the apex of the series. To me, after the first three the series really nose dives. Some people like Prometheus, I personally have a strong distaste for the movie and think its sequel is mediocre. Alien Res the fourth film released is also a little too silly for my own taste. But there are people that like all of these films at different levels, so you still have to watch them because peoples taste are so varied, even if it isn't on the react channel. I know a couple of weirdos who only like Resurrection, and one who only likes Prometheus. I hope that Romulus or the FX series rights the ship, but I've heard promises of going back to the series roots for decades now, so I'll have to wait and see. The first three movies are amongst my favorite movies of all time.

The extended edition adds a TON to this movie IMO. It is honestly the ONLY extended version I own of any of them. The directors cut of Alien honestly messes up the lore going forward, and the assembly cut of Alien 3, while adding to the characters, is kind of chaotic to say the least. Ripley was an absolute BADASS and one of the first female protagonists that kicked total A$$ with no F's given, she was NOT giving up on Newt no matter what. To this day "GET AWAY FROM HER YOU B!TC#" is one of the hardest lines ever...the whole theater cheered LOUDLY when she said it. Alien was all about the suspenseful horror, Aliens is basically an Syfy/Action/Horror show and it was basically tied for my favorite 2nd movie in a franchise next to Terminator 2 Judgement Day. Jeannette Goldstein (Vasquez) is my favorite. Her gun says Adidos. When the computer says you have 15 minutes to get to safe distance...time it. It really is 15 minutes until the planet blows up. Bill Paxton ( Hudson) most of his lines were improvised. James Cameron hires the same actors and actresses.

The rewatch value is great because every single thing is meticulously set up by something that happened before. For example watch the sequence where the dropship takes off with Ripley and there's a subtle hint that the queen got on that I doubt anyone would notice on the first viewing but Cameron being a relentless perfectionist added it in.

Speaking as an alien fan: WATCH ALIEN 3! It´s a perfect trilogy ending. People usually dislike it for two reasons: 1: A really sad beginning (no spoilers)... 2: Some few sequences, made with early poor CGI.... Despite that, Alien3 works very well as a closure.
@miller-joel

Wrong. It starts with a retcon that destroys continuity, so it doesn't follow Aliens, any more than some lame fanfic would. And killing your favorite characters, making the first two movies completely pointless, is not a "perfect ending."

@@Marcel_Wendigo You don't even understand the difference between liking something and claiming it's good. Liking sht doesn't make you a liar. Saying it's good, does. If your "opinion" is that continuity doesn't matter, your opinion sucks, because continuity is the most important part of storytelling, since people started telling stories.

20:14 i actually think the residents of Hadleys Hope weren’t studying the facehuggers for company. We know they’d didn’t know about them until Newts family came back with a facehugger attached to her dad. They were being over run by Aliens and trying desperately to find some way to save themselves. As Bishop said - they killed the host taking it off.

This movie scared the crap out of me and my friends when we saw it in the theater. Has anyone suggested Buffy the Vampire Slayer series? Thinking you might appreciate the clever writing, great characters, story arcs and world building. It was the og vampire/monsters teen drama that inspired so many books, movies and tv.

The Xenomorph Queen may look big but there's bigger ones. See a regular Queen controles single colonies of Xenomorphs. Than there's Express Queens that are about 3 times bigger than a regular Queen and she rules over multiple Queens/Colonies. Sometimes over entire hive planets of Xenomorphs. Than there's Queen Mothers Xenomorphs that rule over and controle multiple planets of Xenomorph Hive planets. In large colonies of Xenomorphs there's usually a Xenomorph King that's produced. The Kings are slightly larger than a regular Xenomorph Queen and their main purpose is to guard and protect the Queen.

49:48 _Stranger Things 2_ was a big love letter for _Aliens._ They cost Paul Reiser who played Carter Burke in _Aliens_ this to play Dr. Sam Evans, the new director of Hawkins National Laboratory. People noticed the similarities especially the final episode when the troops go into the Upside Down against all the demodogs with the motion tracker and beeping that used the same sound effects. viewers people expected Dr. Evans to turn out to be a bad guy due Reiser playing Burke and our previous of Dr. Brenner, and the twist was he was a good guy. (And not just claiming to be one as Burke claimed to Ripley.)

Maritime law says that if you find a ship afloat at sea and no one is aboard, you can claim it as yours. It's called "salvage" rights. In the first movie you mistook Kane for Ash when Kane says to Dallas, "I volunteer to be in the first group to go out." It's Kane that says this line and it is he that is the most eager and keeps pushing everyone forward, It's he that gets lowered in the underground egg chamber. This is because his character is hoping for a big payoff. He was hoping he would make a discovery that he could claim a certain percentage of the profits from and make a lot a money. Dallas doesn't think too much of this attitude in Kane and when Kane volunteers to be in the first group to go out Dallas replies, "Yeah, that figures." He then tells lambert she's going out too, "Swell" she says sarcastically. She doesn't share Kane's thirst for treasure. The novelization of the movie by Alan Dean Foster goes into these character details much deeper than the movie. The novel isnt that good. It's not bad but it fails to capture the fear and tension of the movie and if you already know how it ends there's hardly any reason to read it, honestly.

I watched your reaction to Alien before, and you can't imagine how happy I was the other day you posted this, because this movie is so epic, even more when none of you had watched it before and how fun was to see myself in all of you, when I watched this the first time. Thanks for sharing, guys! The side characters of this film are so memorable, Hudson specially. Vasquez, oh, she's such a badass (plus, your faces when you read her name in the list, priceless hehe). And Hicks, I just really loved the guy because he always listened to Ripley, trust her judgement without knowing her but he could tell how brave she was (when he asks her if she was okay, right before entering the compound), for going back there knowing this creature terrified her. Again, thanks guys! 😊 Ps. Since it was a group reaction, the soundtrack may have seem absent but honestly, James Horner's compositions were amazing . Absolutely nerve-wracking 😉

Aliens is arguably the greatest sequel and the greatest sci-fi film ever made. You'll be better off if you end the franchise with Aliens. The next two movies are.... horrible to silly fan fiction. Let's just say if you care about Ripley, Newt and Hicks, avoid Alien 3 at all cost.

I truly believe the _real_ reason the company lured Ripley into going was to get her there and have Burke get rid of her - as she was the only threat to their bio-weapons plans.

A little background, besides sending the colonists to search for the Alien spacecraft, after having read Ripley’s report. Burke also for some reason was able to choose the commander for the Colonial Marines search and rescue team-So he willfully chose the most experienced man possible, hoping he could push him around, get him to do what he wanted. Hence why Gorman made bad call after bad call-The team ought to have known, based on Ripley’s report, that the colonists were already dead. When the personal transmitters placed them all by the reactor. The Marines should have just dusted off and left the planet. Or better yet nuked it right then and there. Burke. What a fool.

Just watched your reaction. When that man said there goes our salvage which I thought was common knowledge to know what he meant it means a ship can be salvaged if empty so the finder can take possession of its contents but when Ripley was seen anything that is worth of value cannot be touched unless of course the salvager turns out to be a pirate
