Aliens is an astonishing achievement. Not just a brilliant story of a parallel mother/daughter relationship, but on a technical level with incredible practical and miniature effects that hold up to this day, and all under a budget of just $18million. Plus, Cameron was not appreciated by the British crew on only his second feature, and had such a battle getting this made but still managed to create one of the most visceral cinematic experiences in my lifetime. Aliens will always be one of my favourite films and I always reference it for inspiration in my own miniature work. :)

Cameron always slates off the British crew even to this day... no acknowledgment or appreciation of the final outcome. "They were the worst", "they were horrible" and "they needed a kick in the ass" were said by him recently advertising Avatar 2.

Arguably the greatest sci-fi ever made. Arguably the greatest sequel ever made. The Special Edition is the best way to watch Aliens. I've seen this masterpiece countless times and it never gets old. It's just too bad that never made a sequel.
@ashbridgeindustries380

Aliens was a terrible sequel, let's be honest. A good movie, yes, but an action thriller is *not* an appropriate sequel to a horror movie. It's like if the sequel to Jurassic Park was a rom-com, or the sequel to A New Hope was a Victorian period drama. Alien 3, while it was a bad movie, was actually a better sequel, because it at least had the decency to be the correct genre for a sequel to a horror movie: horror.
@LukeLovesRose

@@ashbridgeindustries380 I'm being honest. Aliens is easily one of the greatest sequel ever made. If you cant appreciate what James Cameron did with this movie, you cant appreciate the art of cinema. He turned Ripley, a character with as much depth as any slasher film survivor you can name into a real person. That growth makes Aliens a much better movie than Alien

My favourite behind-the-scenes story from this film: Michael Beihn wasn't the first choice for Hicks - the role originally went to James Remar (best known as Ajax from THE WARRIORS). He worked on the film for the first month of shooting, but had a drug problem at the time and was fired by Cameron after being arrested for possession. Beihn was then brought in to replace him, with a combination of reshoots and clever editing. While Remar was still working on the film, there was an infamous incident involving Hick's "handy for close encounters" shotgun. Remar was practicing with the shotgun in between scenes, and a live round somehow found its way into the chamber. This resulted in him accidentally blasting a hole in the set, whereupon Al "Sgt Apone" Matthews (who'd taken it upon himself to train the other actors in firearm use and safety) marched across the set, snatched the gun away from Remar and laid into him like a real-life drill sergeant. And just to make the story complete: on the other side of the wall he shot a hole in, they were busy filming LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. But thankfully, no one was hurt.

I would argue that Aliens is an action film. With elements of horror. Which is part of what makes it great. It distinguishes itself by being of a different genre than Alien, but still honoring the spirit of it... As such, I would argue, the theatrical version works better as an action film... The director's cut is just a novelty. The deleted scenes don't add to the narrative, throw off the tone, and completely derail the pacing... I prefer the theatrical. It's the version I fell in love with. It's the version that was already perfect without needing anything added or taken away.

I’m always torn about bringing Ripley back. On the one hand, she’s Sigourney is a great actress. On the other, I feel it kind of hamstrung the series as its named “Alien.” So making the focus so squarely on one human seems kind of off. Rather than being able to make the xenomorphs the actual main characters, and following their reign of terror throughout the cosmos.

Contrary to what Sigourney Weaver had to say about "Aliens" (1986), I saw it as all about Family. ("Jennifer Lawrence"? Who is that?;) The Cold War-based "Alien iii" by William Gibson would have been...a bit more interesting. There are those who say that Vasquez' "woman warrior" was an example for Ellen Ripley as the Drop Ship headed for the platform. KZitem reactors often delete the "Dwayne and Ellen" scene, but that is what makes "Aliens" that much more iconic.;)

Personally I would like to see an alien movie where the humans are much more better equipped with both firepower and knowledge of the danger of the aliens. Where the lasting survivers kick the heck out of the aliens and are able to last through out the movie. I thought that in part 3 when newt and hicks dying was totally wrong !!! After every thing that they went through would deserve their continuing survival. This could of made for a much better script !!! But that's just my humble opinion.
