I have multiple pens with this nib. Definitely my favorite. I also get architect nibs from Osprey here in the states which are also great . ( I have no financial relationship with them.)

I think that we have different stuff on the Canadian Temu site. If you see a Jinhao 911 with a dragon and a long-knife nib, pick one up if the price is reasonable. That nib is awesome. They were under $5 Canadian for awhile. I ordered a few more as spares and to give away. They're now around $18 CDN. I wouldn't pay that. It's still a $3 pen. I'm seeing cheap Jinhaos with Naginata/long-knife nibs going for as much as $60 CDN on our Temu site. People are buying them. It's well worth it to learn how to change the nibs yourself. Thanks for showing me how to do it.

That was a nice look at your new acquisitions Chris. I may have to pick on up to play around with sometime, but for now I'm playing around with an FPR Ultra Flex as well as an Osprey. I've also changed out the standard nib in a Jinhao X450 for a Zebra G Nib. That makes for an interesting experience! Cheers.

@@chrisrap52 Yes I have, including the videos on bent nibs, oblique nibs, and others. I currently have several naginata style nibs, a couple of bent nibs, a couple of architect nibs, several stub nibs, a broad oblique nib, and a lot of the road tipped nibs in various sizes. I have a medium architect nib arriving tomorrow, that I am eager to try. It has been a fun journey, and I am trying to figure out what yo try next. Maybe a double broad, as I have never used one of the before, or maybe a medium oblique.

Thanks for the nice introduction to the Naginata Heartbeat Nib. The comparison with the Kaigelu Long Knife nib is a bit off though. This is because the Kaigelu Long Knife is more like an architect nib than a naginata. To make the confusion complete: HongDian (and thus Lemon) calls its architect-style nibs "Blade" and the equivalents to the naginata "Long Knife". So exactly the opposite of Kaigelu. The fact that various errors and confusions occur due to these contradictory names is therefore the norm rather than the exception.

There are no standards for these nibs. Just as regular nibs, they have a large variation. I enjoy exploring these, seeing how they write. Haven't found one I didn't enjoy.

Enjoy the pen and nib, Chris. I have just started to experiment with other variants of nib grinds. I find the stub nib to be the nib that requires the most practice. Rolling the nib like I usually do is not the way to go with it. Do you have to be more careful in use with the Naginata nib or is it more forgiving? Is it more like an architect nib? I am more interested in having some character to my handwriting. Is there such a thing as a fine Naginata nib? Yes, I also do not understand why the Heartbeat nib lays down more ink than an inline slit.

Some long blade/knife nibs come in different widths. These are just one size. These are more forgiving than architect nib when you rotate while writing. Ink seems to like the heartbeat slit.
The Naginata Heartbeat nib, is it made by Jinhao?? I'd say so.

Not branded Jinhao. I believe a nib maker is making them, not for any brand. I am not aware of a Jinhao pen with a Naginata nib or anything similar.

Hey Chris...sure like it when your videos popup in my subscription feed! Actually, Doug R. of Inkquiring minds turned me onto the knife back, or long blades some time ago. I like the way they write. And the sweet spot is not hard to find when writing with them. My question to you is what is that green ink you used in this video? I once had a boss (circa early 1970s) who always used green ink in his pens...sort of his "signature color" and I always liked it. I need at least one pen that has this distinctive ink color in it. What did you use in this video? Thanks and regards from Joe M...mid-USA in Leawood, KS.

I show the ink in my review of the Jinhao Stabilized wood pen. It is from Dominant Industries.

Per the listing one size. Maybe more sizes later. Some long blade/knife nibs come in different widths.
Thanks for this review, Chris. How might the heartbeat nibs be adjusted, as I've often found that Chinese nibs are too dry and often misaligned out of the bubblewrap? Can one hand-adjust them? It doesn't seem that a brass shim or sparkplug gapper would work.

My experience with Chinese nibs is much better. I have never flossed one. Have you written with a heartbeat nib? I find them to be wet.

@@chrisrap52 Not yet. I bought a couple of 9019 pens-on-steroids and gave one to a penbuddy, but haven't loaded one of them yet. I have written with the straight-nib 9019 and they are...inconsistent. Sometimes juicy and smooth, other times balky and skip-prone. Admittedly, I will write on anything available, from nice sugarcane paper to the backs of envelopes to (gasp!) newsprint, so much of the fault may lie with me.

well it's nice that you like your new nibs, i've had some interest in an architect nib, but I'd want it to have more line variation then these ones seem to. I may end up grinding my own at some point.
@chrisrap52

I didn't show line variations. Similar to architect, except, line increases on down stroke as angle decreases. Depends on you style of writing to get most line variations. For me, a stub works best for script.
