I remember it well, I was watching the country music station in '99 when I first saw this music video and heard this song. My sister had just got done teasing me about how country music sucks and all the songs sound the same. She said "Watch, the next song that comes on is gonna sound just like the last one, and I'm here to make fun of it." Then this music video came on.... we were silent throughout and at the end we were flabbergasted. She said "Thats like... the prettiest song I've ever heard.." I agreed.

A song that is DEFINITELY unrecognized and never made it on the charts after its release. WHY???!!!! It never made air-time on my local country music radio station (KJUG 106.7). I never understood that! Such a great song, I can't get enough of it! CMT used to play this all the time back in the day, I miss those days.

This is one of my favorite Alison Krauss songs, but it's much better performed live. It's slowed down and it gives you a much deeper feeling of just how sad the song really is.

Yes, she likes to joke around in live concerts about the sad songs they play. She says they don't want anyone to go home happy. Talk about a beautiful way to have death by music -- have you heard "Ghost In This House"? I love it but I practically want to slit my throat every time. If I need a good cry, AKUS is my go-to band. I guess they are the R&B of bluegrass.

Alison Kraus rocks. This is a beautiful song that inspired me to write a vocal arrangement of it for my senior recital back in 2006 (you can hear a portion of the arrangement 2:52 into my vocal arranging demo on youtube). The original songwriters are Gordon Kennedy and Phil Madeira, who have written for a virtual Who's Who of contemporary artists.

This song was written by Gordon Kennedy and Phil Madeira. This song is so haunting to me. Listening to her backing up her own lead vocals, and the mix is just beyond words for me to describe. That one moment you hear the vocal mix (and layering) at 2:41 is so sultry and smooth.

@@Rogue3269 -- Actually, she never does sing backup. It's Dan Tyminski backing her up and their voices meld together so perfectly that it's hard to hear two separate voices. They are both incredibly talented, just like the rest of the band. Dan can sing almost as high as Alison, because men can sing falsetto, unlike women. AKUS has so much skill that there's very little difference between hearing a live performance of theirs or a track produced in a studio. They don't need to overdub anything.
