I have watched a few videos on how to do this now. This is way the best and up to your usual standard. Best wishes to you both for 2023

Why wouldn't you change the rear pad at the same time, equal wear?
@HereWeTow

It was 5 years ago so I can’t remember now but the front part broke so we were replacing that broken part. I don’t remember the rear being worn and our friend still have this caravan and had no further issues with the lining pads. Thank you for watching..

Hello hope you are well. We have a 2018 swift sprite, noticed today whilst toeing that there is some creaking/knocking noises coming from our Alko hitch. What could be the issue please? Many thanks in advance

Thanks for watching.. that could well be the friction pads. It might be they just need cleaning. Make sure your tow ball is clean too. This is a good step by step guide from my friend Nigel, try this before you start having to replace anything. If it’s not dirt then you will need to replace the pads. All the best with it www.practicalcaravan.com/advice/how-to-change-clean-al-ko-aks-3004-stabiliser-pads 👍

Hi Jules, This happened to me today, second weekend away in our brand new caravan, we couldn’t unhitch the caravan and then this small plastic bit fell out once I eventually got it off the tow ball. Do you know what causes this to happen? I would have expected it to last longer than to short trips away in a new van 😩 I will be contacting the dealer tomorrow, just wondered if you knew why it happens 🤷♂️ Take care both

Hi Lee, I heard of someone else having the same problem too today funnily enough. Our friends had had a lot of use so could easily have been wear and tear. For a brand new one it could be bad luck, a faulty part, maybe something related to the hitch or, as the dealer may try to tell you, your tow ball. As long as you have cleaned the paint off your tow ball it is unlikely to be that. Be interesting to see how many other people have had problems. I hope you get it sorted and it doesn’t happen again. I wouldn’t expect it to happen on your second outing..

Great video and very clear instructions. Only suggestion is that it would be better to use the full kit and replace both the front and back pads whilst you have the hitch stripped down, just one screw short of a full job :). If the front pad has failed then the back pad will also be degraded to some extent.

Thank you very much for the video, Peter, you gave me the confidence to have a go at doing it myself. I did the front and back pads, as "Harris The Cocker" suggested, the back was easy but I did struggle to get the front pad into place, I put a little bit of washing up liquid onto the screw nib to lubricate it, what a feeling when it clicked into place! Thank's again, really clear instructions and a great video.

Difficulty releasing the AKS3004 Stabiliser from the towball. When I eventually managed to release it the friction lining (as I now it to be came away), your explanation was easy to follow and is more easily described and demonstrated , than the AL-KO manual.

@HereWeTow

My only advice for this is to double check that you have the correct replacement parts. As long as these are right then I would say it was a little fiddly at first to get the pad in place. You need to put your finger in the middle of the hole to depress the indicator spring whilst manipulating the lining to get it to sit correctly. It is such an exact fit when you release the spring that it will sit there until you put the retaining screw back in. Hope that helps. Jules.

Thanks Jule’s, job done. I couldn’t press the indicator hard enough whilst inserting the friction pad, so I pushed it up and wedged it on the outside that allowed me to concentrate on placing the pad. Thanks again

Isn't the indicator for front and rear pads by the hitch handle? I'm quite new to this so assumed the front indicator was for the side pads. Good video but would have been better to change both I'd have thought.
@HereWeTow

No, I am not sure which indicator you mean. There is the ATC on some caravans and the green button to show you are hitched on. Thanks for watching, Karina

@@HereWeTow at 6.47 on your video there is a red indicator showing just forward of your coupling handle , on the ALKO website it refers to that as a wear indicator. Thx
@HereWeTow
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is red and when you attach to the towball it should click to green to show the pads are engaged. If its red the tow ball could be worn or the pads, or you haven’t hitched properly and you may detach. The piece that broke on here was not the pads, they were not worn. Pads have quite a long life as long as you keep your towball dry and clean. Enjoy your caravan! 👍
