If I may offer my opinion on this, I do have a critique. From the looks of it, you just listened to the versions of the anthems on wikipedia, which from my impressions, are not as good as some of the other versions that exist. Mainly because the wikipedia versions lack vocals a lot of the time. I guarantee that with some of these anthem's vocals, they would be plazed a whole lot higher, like Argentina, South Africa, Portugal, Tunisia, Andorra, Bulgaria, Greece, Cameroon, or Georgia. If you see this, I would recommend searching on KZitem for the vocal versions of these anthems, because even from just the examples I've listed, I agree that the wikipedia versions are in many cases nowhere near as good as the vocal versions.

@uRDM
3 жыл бұрын
You make a good point; I can't really use length alone as a reason for one to be good and the other to be bad. I guess... it's more like a catalyst. The anthem being thirty seconds long amplifies my feelings about it, because the anthem's statement is much smaller and therefore more... definitive, I guess? If an anthem made a boring initial statement but tried to amend it with a decent bridge or an amplified version later in the song, I would feel better about it. But Jordan makes the one statement, (one that I personally dislike), and just repeats it as if it's enough to sustain an entire anthem. It all boils down to personal opinion, really. I like the San Marino motif, and I dislike the Jordan motif; I think San Marino's is so good that it's enough to be an entire song, while I think that Jordan's is so bad that to assume it could make an entire song is an insult to the listener. Thank you for your insightful comment, this really got me thinking.

Yep. The Israeli anthem isn’t meant to be a patriotic march. It is meant to convey the Jewish struggle to return home, and how fraught with sadness that struggle has been. There are renditions of it in a major key though, that give off a happier tone of seeing the thing our ancestors fought and bled for - autonomy in our land - come to pass at last. a) I'm only considering legal, real political boundaries here. If I were combining nations that were the same peoples, America and Canada would be together, North and South Korea would be together, Ukraine and Russia would be together, it would go on forever. If Azerbaijan's population is 9 + 84 million, America's is 328 + 38 + 67 + 25 + 5 million (USA + Canada + UK + Australia + New Zealand). It's a silly way to delineate countries because it's so amorphous. b) Azerbaijan is literally my favorite country, dude. Out of all 196, it's Azerbaijan. I spent five entire minutes talking about how awesome it is in the video; I am probably, out of all 300 million Americans, the one you least need to be ranting to about how great it is. c) everyone has culture. saying america doesn't have culture is just being rude. any kind of past or tradition counts as culture, even if it's something silly like s'mores or baseball. I will admit that I shouldn't have called your culture "middle of the road"; that was a bit disparaging. I just meant not particularly noteworthy to someone who's never heard of them before.

I had to pause multiple times and stop myself from commenting before I had finished the video, but no, there was no twist or reveal at the end. I realy can't understand most of the other choices. Repetitive=bad but not for san marino for some reasone, there it is great? You didn't elaborate at all why all anthems in the G category are the same, cause I would really need an explanation to get that. And then you show the antems in the higher tiers and I hear them and think, that is much more boring than many of the anthems I know, that were put in the lower tiers. Idk at the end it is only personal taste and one cant argue over that, but the title of the video suggested, that you would analyse the anthems in a musical sense, but that was not the case. You also said that mpst of the anthems were instrumental, but almost all anthems have lyrics (one exeption beeing Spain, where the lyrics are not sung as they are associated with the Franco-regime). Also the quality of the recordings on wikipedia seems to be pretty bad. Maybe you should listen to other recordings, that also include the lyrics.

I'd say lyrics are critical in a national anthem, which is why I love our anthem of Portugal A Portuguesa, but to each their own I guess It's just that in 2016 in the Euro finals against France, we SANG the lyrica of the national anthem, we didn't whistle it, and boy, I assure you 95%+ of over 18 literate people in Portugal know the official verses by heart And the unnoficial verses (unnoficial because they're not included in the state otficialized version) are even better I understand your take here and it's valid and all, but cmon...it's anthems, throwing lyrics out when considering them sounds silly It's also why I don't really like lyric-less anthems

I dearly wish I spoke every language, so I would be able to evaluate all anthem lyrics fairly. I fully agree with you, lyrics are a huge part of it, and are crucial to the quality and pride of an anthem. I'm just not equipped to rank them, because I only speak two languages. Maybe if I got a team together to accurately translate every one of them, but even then... nothing ever sounds as good translated as it does in its original language. It's an unfortunately unsolvable problem, and perhaps why this project was doomed from the start

Hey! A guy from sucking "nothing country" of Azerbaijan speaking. Thank you for your admiration of our anthem. But just because you're an average American who doesn't know anything outside your own state, doesn't mean that literate people across the globe don't know where Azerbaijan is. And we don't suck as a country. The same author that wrote the anthem also wrote the first Opera of the Islamic East for the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic which is the first secular and democratic state in the Islamic and Turkic worlds altogether that extended women's suffrage way before the US did it. Don't humiliate any country, talk about your music and just be silent about everything else. Most of the countries you called garbage are older than the continent in which your country was built.

You implied that you are "actual musician" just to make your ranking seem to be more unquestionable, more legit, as the fact you understood music made something more out of your opinion. Unfortunatly i dont like your attitude either, why do you act so mean and exalted. You just cant distinguish between "useless" country and the opossite - are some nations more "usable", in what sense? Ranking national anthems is overal very questionable concept - you can do that, but you have to DEFINE CATEGORIES in which you want to rank them. It is possible to evaluate by your personal opinion, but you have to admit it and say in what categories you are thinking, what are QUALITIES of anthems you rate high, you know? Also anthems are not any music - it should say something to people of the nation - that means you have to consider historical meaning of composing and writing an anthem and also the time the nation accepted it as a national anthem. Most of them was just music at first - and was consider as a national anthems acording to what they symbolized, not how musicly good They were. Every anthem is personal and public confession of this or that nation. It is immensely important to know THE ORIGIN which is very often in times, when the modern nation was established or when some identity-relevant event occured - like revolution, civil war, change of political system etc. Plus you did not rate the LYRICS which are very important in anthem-like music. But i give you credit for the work you put to these - just think about the topic and meaning you want to pass on to your viewers nex time.
