10 to go and 2 seconds back. Takes the lead with 8 to go. Wins by 2 seconds at Charlotte. Ray and Jeff spilt up and Gordon goes on to win his first 2 races in back to back weeks without Ray. Ol boy is the goat.

That 1999 Daytona car!! Gorgeous. I miss how the super speedway cars use to look from other track. Ray left that year and ruined another championship

whatever is causing it, any number of things, its being done on purpose to get the spoiler out of the air. less drag = more speed.

JJ not in his league.... JJ had A tremendous amount of luck, not to mention the bullshit chase format. If the format never changed, using the one that Petty and Earnhardt won 7 titles, Jeff would have 6 titles. JJ would have 1. That sums it up

@@michaeldistefano7027 Gordon would have 7 actually, 2004, 2007, 2014 would be his without the chase. To Johnson's credit he would have 3. 2006, 2009, and 2013 Other big losers to the chase format are Carl Edwards (2008, 2011) and Kevin Harvick (2010, 2015, 2018, and 2020)

Correcting myself here, Harvick would have had 2015 and 2016. 2017 would stay with Truex, well deserved, then 2018 and 2019 go to Kyle Busch. Very few of the chase championships stay the same though. only Tony Stewart in 2005, Jimmie in 2006, 2009 and 2013, Brad Keselowski in 2012, Kyle Busch in 2019, and Kyle Larson in 2021. I don't think those surprise anyone though. Those seasons all stand out as dominant to me. No format would have robbed any of them.

@johnreams3182 the biggest losers to the chase and dumb gimmicky rules are the fans.... they've killed the racing in NASCAR
