Honest and real. You have to be a very well trained (and probably sponsored) runner to be able to afford AND TOLLERATE carbon plated shoes. In a way, they're less suited to the everyday runner and probably better left to the propper athletes.

Thank you for this video! Your insight as a shop owner is paramount! I’m a 6’3 200lb walker who’s tried literally 30 pairs of shoes (including D and 2E widths). So far I love the Rebel V4. Looking for a second pair. I also have high and flexible arches. Would a forked carbon plate be the end of the world for me for walking and standing? My eye is on the supercomp trainer v3

That makes sense. I bought a pair still have never in my closet. Oh, it was the north door from two pro or maybe the one but that’s what I did after I noticed it after about 10 miles specially, if I was doing 10 hard miles with a lot of hills, my Achilles in my heel both move bother, today’s my back into the closet baby. I’m waiting for my five fingers to give me a CarPlay probably not. I also heard don’t know if this is true Deb they’re only a real benefit but like a real worthwhile benefit if you’re planning on running pretty close to like seven minute mile pace for a longest if you’re running slower than that, the benefit is really low so still to this day, my fastest marathon converse six, but I’m a trail, run rabbit run many marathons anymore

Great information to take into account. I never even considered the possibility of injury from a carbon plate. I love brooks ghost 14 and I'm thinking about trying the asics metaspeed sky paris for Hood to Coast in August.

What are your thoughts on the New Balance SuperComp trainer v2's?
@RunMoore

I liked the V2 much more than the V1. The upper went from a sock knit material to their own engineered mesh upper on the V2. The new upper fits much better on the V2. New Balance lowered the stack height on the V2 and narrowed the plate cavity in the heel. It has made it a tad more stable than before and rocks will not get stuck in the cavity like before. Personally, it was not a shoe for me. I like much more of a ground feel in a shoe whereas this is still a very plush shoe. I have friends who have loved running in the SuperComp V2 and have enjoyed it very much. Hope that helps!

At 4:40, .... A claim of 4% more efficient/faster? I have a lot of friends who have run carbon shoes, and none of them said they got a 4% improvement. I got a 1% improvement (Rocket X 2) only in shorter 5k races. ( around 10 seconds off my 18:20 5k time). It sounds crazy that you can take 7:12 (4%) off of a 3-hour marathon by just running Alphaflys. Maybe it is different for the pros. Great video thank you!!

Hey Steve, I’m a stability shoe wearer, and have to manage Achilles tendinitis. Never tried a carbon-plated shoe. Scheduled to run 1/2 marathon in October, then my first-ever marathon in January. Please tell me what shoes you’d recommend for the marathon. I picked up the new Kayano 30s, and they’ll be okay for the 1/2, but I really need a strong recommendation for the full, that is lighter, stable and comes in a wide width.

I know I'm not Steve, but the Saucony Tempus would be a good recc. Still a stability shoe, but it's lighter and more uptempo with it's partial pebax midsole, and it comes in a wide width.

Hey Steve, great video! Wanted to get your 2 cents, for race day, what shoe would you recommend for a marathon race, goal of 3:30? I am currently training in vivobarefoot for easy runs up to 16k and altras Escalante 2.5 for everything else including longer runs. I’m still in early prep, and considering I’m quite used to barefoot style, I’m wondering what shoe will get me the best performance for race day. Appreciate your insights!

Probably late awnser, but try Altra Escalante Racer. Its the lightweight version of the escalante. That way, you have a nice minimal racing flat, but with a very light upper and still some cushioning. Or, just use the escalante. Pretty good for how you're running and what you want to do.
