In Arctic hognoses specifically, being het for lavender adds a bit of a greenish hue, per the breeder I got my Arctic conda 66% het lavender from. This is particularly noticeable on my snake's sides, above the white walls either side of his belly. Has anyone else noticed this? I find it interesting!

So, I found your videos about Rex first and typically avoided the snake videos because I have a serious phobia of snakes. I can’t even watch them on TV. The thing is, I wasn’t always scared of them - the phobia dates back to my brother putting a little garden snake down the back of my shirt when I was 10 or so. Something about that incident flipped a phobia switch or something, and I’ve never been able to get over it. I grew up in Alabama and next to a river, so we had lots of snakes, venomous and not. At some point, from college on, I started avoiding activities where I thought I might see snakes. And if you’re familiar with Alabama, it’s mostly forests and water, so most weekend activities involved camping, hiking and boating when I was a kid and teen. All this to say, I’ve started watching your snake videos to try and desensitize myself to seeing snakes and to try and learn more about them. I’m happy to say that I’ve been doing this for a couple of months and at least I don’t feel sick watching them anymore? It’s getting easier, and I think there’s something about the way Emily is so calm and excited, and how she approaches the videos in an educational manner, that’s helped a lot. I tried watching another channel and had to turn it off, so anyway, I wanted to say thanks for posting this content. It’s still scary for me, but I’m learning a lot. And now, time to watch this video :)

German biologist here! And for me the thing with Incomplete dominant and Codominant morphs makes a lot of sense, since in the german language we call the incomplete dominance "Codominanz". So maybe some snake breeder with german heritage once mixed up the languages (In german, we call it "Denglisch" which is a fusion of the words "Deutsch", aka german, and "Englisch") and called it "codominant" instead of incomplete dominance. The curse of being bilangual manifested itself once again :D

It sounds like line bred traits might be controlled by several genes giving one result with a specific combination of recessed, dominant, and heterogenous expressions or something, with no noticeable expression outside of that combination, hence why breeding related snakes makes it more likely, but not guaranteed. I remember a while back they made a video about a reptile genome tracking facility working on snake morphs, so maybe we'll get answers at some point?
