The tree tunnel never was the same after hurricane Iwa hit Kauai back in 1982, the eucalyptus trees were much fuller then it got thinner after hurricane Iniki in 1992, driving through the tree tunnel prior to the two hurricanes used to be darker during the day. I miss going to the Brenneke beach next to the Poipu beach.

Hey Jason 😊 You must have seen so much change over the years. Do you come back to visit your family often?

@@YourHostJ I visited my parents in 2017 and 2018 who still lives up in the Wailua Homesteads area, there’s been lots of changes on Kauai since I left in 1992 before hurricane Iniki hit, the sugar plantations was still in full force and the Coco Palms Hotel was still open, during my last visit in 2018 I couldn’t believe how much has changed and lots of places I still remember from my childhood days no longer exists. I had planned on visiting my parents for my 50th birthday last year but something unplanned came up here and I had to postpone my trip to Kauai, I still call my parents.

Hello from Half Moon Bay, CA! Kauai has my heart, we’ve been on Oahu and Maui, but for me, Kauai is absolutely precious and as a tourist it has that islandish vibe and not so touristy. We were fortunate enough and stayed in Koloa landing, enjoyed eating at “Da Crack” with the locals. We drove the whole island, even did a day trip through waimea canyon, just drive, will do some hiking next time. We were suppose to be there this past year, covid ruined the plans. But your videos bring me memories. And you are absolutely beautiful!!!!Until next time precious Kauai...

@@manuelmachado7502 Hi Manuel! Thank you so much for watching! Yes - Covid has ruined many people's travel plans this past year - but I am looking forward to 2021 and getting back to semi-normal soon! We always spend our summer with our family in Portugal and we couldn't go this past summer either. Though we don't mind being "stuck" in Kauai 😂 Everyone loves "Da Crack"! So happy to hear you have some good memories of the island ❤️ Thank you so much again for watching! Happy New Year!

There’s many beautiful places on Kuai, but the semi-wild chickens can drive you crazy with their noise. They have a pattern where they seem to check in with each other during the night. Then the stupider roosters crow well before dawn and the rest at first light. Get a well insulated place!
@YourHostJ

😂 Yeah - the chickens are definitely confused I think. I say it must be from inbreeding or something because they surround my house and crow all sorts of hours in the night which I think isn't normal. I guess you tend to get used to them because when I first moved here they drove me crazy! Now, they are just somewhat of a nuisance, but I get decent sleep. Thanks for watching!

@@YourHostJ Inbred chickens, that's funny! This was near Poipu beach park in an older house with thin walls. Enjoyed your video, hope to be back soon.

Have you met any families/couples that moved to Kauai and regretted it and left? I’ve heard other islands like Oahu and Maui actually have quite a lot of residents leaving the islands. Have you noticed the same? If so, what are the main reasons?
@YourHostJ

Hi! Yes - I've definitely met people who end up not being happy on the island for one reason or another. I guess it's different things - some being: it's expensive to live here, lack of opportunity for kids, lack of good education, lack of good medical facilities, etc. It depends I think where people are in their lives - so if you have children now entering high school - you may have limited options you are happy with. I've met people who just are used to a different way of life and are unhappy with Kauai's slow and relaxed way of life. If you are used to going out and partying it up at bars or going to nightclubs - this isn't the place for you. Now - lots of locals are unfortunately priced off the island. The home prices and rents are just crazy expensive and with locals working even 2 jobs - it's just not enough. The minimum wage here and salaries are not keeping up with the housing market. It's actually sad. Many people moved here during Covid because they can now work remotely, but that has driven prices up. So while we had a lot of people come here, lots of locals have moved off island. Thanks for the question and for watching. ❤️❤️❤️

Hello my name is Paula,21 years old.I was wondering what type of place I should rent for myself considering im still in university? I would love to reatreat and enjoy nature in Kauai. A part of me craves the serenity and those beautiful ecosystems. I am currently live in Kingston Mass. Thank You :)

Hello! So many people wanting to come here for college! How exciting! Will you be doing online classes only? If so, then you have the option of living anywhere on island. A thing to keep in mind is what you would like to do on a daily basis. Each part of the island is pretty different. If you want to be around a more "happening" area - I'd stick to the Kapaa area. Also more affordable living there. But, if you want awesome climate year round - then you want to stick closer to the the South Side. Again, so many factors to think about.
