My Mum was 18 when this coin was struck, she had just joined the Royal Navy as a Wren, I have a photo of her standing in Tragalfar Square in Wartime London.

I have this coin in EF condition, its my only post 1941 silver 3d of the UK (They issued silver 3ds in NZ, South Africa, South Rhodesia and Australia after that).

For some reason, guessing because its a wartime coin everytime I see the reverse design I see a hand grenade for a split second.

So in 1943 we had this design of silver threepence, the Maundy design with a crowned 3, and the nickel brass version. I believe the silver threepence was popular in Scotland, despite the English motif. Maybe it was a ploy to wean them off it.
