Do you not have a RODI system? I assume that is why you add prime. I recommend using a sump over a canister filter. They make water changes much more simple by letting your pump return the water at a good temperature and mix. I do the same thing with algae keeping one wall covered. Do you not buy a balanced reef salt? I assume not as you add A&B. Personally I do water changes about every 6 months and just dose back elements. I do a tank scrub every week to keep the algae from growing even though my phosphates and nitrates are almost 0 it still grows.

My RODI water comes from my lfs. The reason for prime is to get rid of any leftover ammonia that might be in the tank. I'd love to have a sump on my next tank, one that is drilled. We tend to jump back and forth from fritz and instant ocean. My corals tend to suck out my calcium and alk too fast. You're tank sounds super nice! I wish I could see. Also thanks for the well thought out comment, I love having viewers dive deep into this fish hobby with me. Take Care!

@@BrockLeonard Wow that must cost a small fortune to buy water from your LFS. Prime is a good product so I don't blame you for playing it safe. I also use instant ocean reef but dose alkalinity every day because I use a sulfur denitrator. I don't have any corals because my fish would likely destroy them. However I would recommend using baked baking soda for alkalinity as it's much cheaper. I have videos on my channel of my adventures in this hobby if your interested. Have a good one.

I have a 30 gallon reef tank just LPS at the moment and 6 months old and my first tank. I do water changes every two weeks just water. Every 2 months however I clean everything, I take out my protein and surface skimmers, wave pumps, all the impellers and of course my sand bed. I really enjoy doing it and that's what's important I look forward everytime. By the way I do exactly the same thing as you I drop seachem prime right after all the time, Love that's stuff.

Brock really enjoy your videos, I too have a 75 gallon tank with a fluval fx 4, do weekly 15% water changes and clean filter every two weeks, all water parameters are good except have high nitrates of at least 40 ppm no matter what I do. I have ordered a reef octopus bh2000 from my lfs, do you think this should help to lower the nitrate level, also have you had many issues with it over flowing. I also ordered a autoaqua skimmer water level shut off valve-have you ever considered one of these. thanks for your help, John
