Have you ever had trouble keeping the B17 in position? The rails are slightly smaller than standard and I've had them slowly slip and shift during rides no matter how tightly they’re clamped. I’m currently making some .1 mm thick brass shims.

“…whatever makes me feel better about that terrible situation”. This is the best bicycle management advice anyone can give or get. I hate an annoying problem regardless how meaningless, they are just too distracting. This is a great bike build, lots of fun to watch. Can’t wait to hear about your adventure ride. BTW, interesting to hear your thoughts on the handlebars. I struggle finding comfortable handlebars. My L wrist is arthritic and it needs multiple grip positions on a long ride.

Interesting build for sure! Kudos for including "the warts" without editing them out (the cable stop facing the wrong way). Using a drill to screw-in water bottle screws???? For shame! Think of the "bike children" and the example you're setting! BTW, it's "LOP" , not "LOB". You lob a grenade; you lop off your finger with a bandsaw (or lop off the end of a fender).

I have that stem on my Trek 920. I put on a Jones bar & wanted a shorter & higher stem so I got an adjustable stem. One bad thing about them is they creak. I also have the velo orange Mojave water bottle cage you have on your seat tube. They work great for nalgenes.

Here's a hack from another mechanic I used to work with: Get an unlimited supply of 5 mm bolt spacers by dismantling chains. Thick spacers are the rollers from a singlespeed (1/8" tooth width) chain and narrow spacers are the rollers from multispeed chains.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, Andy, and many of your other vids, too. Thanks for sharing! I just rewatched your “bike check” video on your All-Rounder, and I’m really fascinated how that bike was your inspiration for this one, as well as the differences! Like isn’t it funny that the All Rounder has a quill stem that would have made the issues with stack and reach you encountered on this build a moot point? I’m not in any way putting you down for the decisions you made on this build, but I am curious if that was a conscious choice or one of convenience. Why did you go 1 1/8” threadless on this build? Was it easier to get the tubing, or did you know you wanted to use a threadless setup from the get go? I’ve never built my own frameset, though I’ve fantasized about it or getting a custom build done, and lately I’ve been thinking that quill stems have a lot of benefits, especially how easily adjustable they are. I’m also just really fascinated by how different the parts on this build are from your All-Rounder, especially the bars and drivetrain! As someone who has experimented with all kinds of alt-bars over the years, I’ve been really skeptical about the Corner Bars - I get their purpose of allowing the use of flat bar controls on a drop bar-esque position, but man, I just can’t get past the appearance. To me, they’re uglier than that adjustable stem you put on for a hot minute, lol. And that CUES drivetrain - such impressive range for a 2x, but why do so many modern derailleurs have to look like something out of a 1980’s futuristic sci fi movie, lol? Anyway, thanks again for sharing, and keep up the awesome work- your community is lucky to have you as their Bike Farmer!

Cool watching this series. I finished my 'similar' build a few weeks ago. Well phase 1 (ridable)... Parts bin builds can be touch and go and my build faught me most of the way as well, one day I somehow stripped every single bolt I looked at... which along with some incompatibilities forced a few quick reassesments in build direction :-)

Just found you off the back of PLP, and love your general approach and ethos, and the setup of this particular bike (as I've built one similar with an old race frame - and 'Major Tom' type drops). But one slight niggle i might have is your choice of saddle for this position. That B17 shape is really a 'bars and seat on the same level' type and might play havoc with your undercarriage*. I'd personally go (and have gone) for a Brooks Swift or Swallow (or their equivalents) as they're more supple, and comfortable to sit on when you're leant forward and the bars are relatively low. *YUMV

Commented on video 6 about paths less pedaled using microshift sword brifters with cues. The other option i think is to use a 11spd wolf tooth tan pan with 105 or grx 11spd brifters. This should work as cues uses the 11spd mtb RD ratio. I guess the problem then would be compatability issues with your fancy paul brakes. The corner bars seem like too much of a compromise on most fronts

Redshift makes a 30 degree Shockstop stem which gets your bars up there where you want them. The Pro model is slightly nicer looking and a bit more unobtrusive but costs a bit more than their regular stem but works just the same. Also if you use the Kitchen Sink bar or or whatever drop bar you may use I highly recommend and use these for long distance comfort the Redshift top grips which wrap under the bar tape and are somewhat akin to an Ergon grip and also give a bit wider platform on the tops when you don't feel like riding the hoods. Redshift also has grips for the drops which I don't personally use, wish I could, only because they aren't compatible with my bar end friction shifters. Plus they also have extra long bar tape to wrap it all with. Great bike build by the way.

I’m using an old specialized steel frame mtb for the trip because if it simplicity I added racks and probably using the B.O.B. Trailer I also diy kitty liter things to add to the racks. They are pretty good for hauling things.
