As soon as you mentioned swapping the twin after g1 i got reminded of this, back in 2013: I deck-teched with Rasmus Björklund for the modern GP Antwerp in 2013. This was during the time splinter twin was THE tier1 deck. One of the Living End itterations we tried was a full 15 card transformation-sideboard from Living end into Splinter Twin, it was epic and pretty much always a 2-0 in the blind because of opponents siding grave-hate rather than instant removal. In the end we figured that it would gather enough attention to be countered properly, so the blind advantage would go away. On the contrary, instead one could play the mind-games of "did he swap to twin or keep the living end", we decided it was too much of a hassle/stress factor to go through with it and stuck to a solid Living End deck, which resulted in top4.

At 17:48 you could have dazed thé trinisphere. This forces them to tap the ancient tomb bringing them down to 6. Then you untap attack and pass tap down with pestermite then attack for lethal. You could also still force pitching brainstorm if you wanna keep it off the board. That way you could present a win and make them have an answer.

Awesome seeing others interested in Legacy Twin! This was quite interesting to watch. My experience playing the Ragavan build was that he did a ton of work holding the deck together. Those treasure tokens let the deck get away with a lot of greed. Rag was kinda like LeBron - capable of winning the game all on his own, and simultaneously making everything in the deck better. Seeing this build succeed without him was interesting, the play patterns are quite different despite how much overlap in cards there is. Also interesting was your match 4 against Moon Stompy. The original Twin deck I ran at Champs way back when was much more value/control slanted. It got to play Jace, Dig, etc, alongside a higher land count and more copies of combo pieces, and it absolutely demolished the Moon Trinisphere deck.

Hey Bosh, I was your fun police opponent round two. They were some crazy games that topped off match 10 of a 2 league night for me. I got lion dash game 1 because up until that point you just looked like delver, so I wanted an equipment body that I could cast, but I felt less pressure to get it in once I saw the twin combo. Daze buried me game 2 on a sketchy keep and I didn’t have a white card in my hand at the end there, and bouncing yorion to pitch to solitude would’ve given me another turn but I don’t think I’m winning that game with that line either. Also, I was testing out GQ because the DnT discord had been having some discussion about it, and looking back I definitely feel like I played that card less than optimally but that’s why I was trying to get reps in. Either way, good games and I hope to run into you again sometime!

43:24 I've heard you say this a few times, and I think it's the single piece of advice that's improved my play the most -- if your opponent doesn't make the obvious play, give them credit that they have something else! like, in this case, you don't have to peg them on precisely eiganjo to know that they're probably holding up some kind of instant-speed interaction that they can't fire off immediately, and it's worth 2 damage to potentially play around whatever it is.

At 55:28 you act as though Ghost Quarter would force a shuffle, but it’s Field of Ruin that does. Though I think usually DnT does play Field of Ruin over Ghost Quarter, because they don’t want to lose mana.

Tl;dr: I think you were right. As a maths nerd, the comment in the deck tech (significantly fewer hits for delver) is actually more interesting than just run the probability. The reason for this is what play patters your deck aims for changes how you cantrip, which has an effect on your delver flipping. In a delver deck, pondering into land, brainstorm, and a bolt is pretty good. But in a deck like this you're way more likely to shuffle that to try and get a combo kill.
@ragingtempestus6566

Fire // Ice belongs in this deck. The game against DnT really cemented that for me. The 4th bolt is nice, but the ability to mainboard either 2for1 x/1’s or tap a mana source on a crucial combo turn is too good to miss out on
@anaphysik

51:24 You talked about playing Chandra "when I get to 5 mana, someday" but you drew the needed 5th land that very next turn. Could've just Chandra'd right then and there (even keeping Ledger Shredder on defense to protect her from Thalia attack) rather than playing cantrips. Even ignoring the pre-combat delirium mess-up (although attacking with both to commit to the bluff is clever!), seems like you got blinded to the simple action of just playing Chandra.

I've did this in vintage when you could play four git probe. I still played the broken blue cards but stuffing twin pieces into an otherwise reasonable Grixis Pyromancer/Therapy list was really fun, even if it was obviously underpowered for the format.

I don't think EI is good in this deck the average cmc seems to high. Do you think AK would be better in that slot? It would prevent the situations where you only get 1 card off your EI turn 3 or under taxing effects and provide the late game card advantage needed to jam with backup.
@BoshNRoll
2 жыл бұрын
I used to think EI was bad in higher-curve decks too, but it turns out there's enough 1s and lands that getting 2 cards for 2 mana happens most of the time. It's hard to argue with that.

One small play I didn't really understand was using IE looking for the land to bolt Thalia, rather than bolting Thalia and then playing IE afterwards guaranteed. Like I'm not saying it's wrong, I just don't understand the advantage of doing it the other way, unless you didn't want to bolt Thalia?

Normally I skip to see the record and hear if it was a reasonable deck. For Splinter Twin I'd watch even if it was an 0-5 dumpster fire. The only downside is if the decks playable enough in Legacy wotc will say it certainly can't be unbanned in Modern. JK wotc doesn't review the ban list for Modern.
