I remember my Design History professor talking about how those white dresses from the regency era were inspired by the idea of what Ancient Romans wore back in their time. And how that came back later on (I think it was the 1910s or 1920s? Idk).

the 1700s dress is actually called a “robe a la francaise” and was popular in the especially in the 1790s. also fun fact during the turn of the century at the beginning of the regency period, the super wide panniers on skirts were still used in a lot of court dress, but the high waisted look was also fashionable so it created some very interesting looking dresses 😂

People covered their hair first, and the modesty tenets grew around that. It was for sun protection in days before sunscreen and also kept hair clean, free of dirt, and protected.

The middle ages were the 10th century - the 15th century. The rennesaunce (i definitely spelt that wrong) was in the 16th century. The edwardian era started upon Queen Victoria's death in January 1901. The UK eras are, mostly, named for the reigning monarch or monarch line (example: the tudor period).

One critique! As an ancient history your Greek figure should also have been veiling. You didn't specify which polis you were drawing from, but if it was Athenian then the period you were doing is one of extremely heavy veiling similar to that of a modern day naqiib. I highly recommend giving 'Aphrodite's Tortoise: The Veiled Woman of Ancient Greece' by Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones a read. It has some lovely diagrams and takes you through a lot of different styles and periods of Greek veiling.

Fun fact about the regency era, the dress you wore would have been for evening parties only. During the day they would have long sleeves attached to the dresses as well as a white or light sheer crop top looking thing under the dress (I forget what it’s called) to cover their chest for modesty. I was in pride and prejudice and we did a whole bunch of research for a couple of months to make sure we got the costumes historically accurate

very funny types of fabrics, it’s also funny to observe the almost complete absence of clothing (relative to the times indicated), for example, in ancient Greece, a chiton was underwear; going out on the street for a woman in it is the same as going out in shorts nowadays (sorry for my disrespect to English language, prefer Polish )

Make sure you say the country/culture for all of them!! I see people from the US and North America forgetting to specify which country when they talk about history, it leads to a misconception that all of these time periods look like this in the States or that everyone in Europe (or possibly the world) dressed like this. I mean, we all know you are talking about England for most of this video, but please specify that, it’s like when people from the US would say ‘the Queen’ like we know who you’re talking about but as she isn’t your queen and there are other Queens, you still have to specify. Anyways, I digress, I loved the video so many cool outfits
