Maybe you could put a pinguicula in your big terrarium so you don't have to have that sticky trap there? If you put it in a separate pot with its own soil it should be fine I think. I loved seeing all the plants and can't wait to see them after the renovation 🤩

haha this is so true! our living room has been turned into their workspace, so theres no furniture or plants there. they built a wall separating the two (there's an arched doorway there normally). and the kitchen is also storage and workspace, when they cut the outside wall they did put up plastic to prevent total dustification. upstairs they're not working yet but they will put up a dust screen too from what i've heard. i'll do an update on what's happening soon!

Amazing collection, Roos! For the thrips, what beneficials are you releasing? You may already know this, but you'll need something to eat all three life stages to get full control - Orius or Lacewings for the adults, cucumeris for the larvae, and stratiolaelaps or nematodes for the pupae in the soil. Getting on top of the adults is really important because their life cycle is 30-40 days and they'll just keep laying more eggs. Best of luck! I've been battling thrips myself lately and they are the worst 😭

Hey! The predatory situation is a bit different here cos I'm on a different continent (I'm assuming you're in the US from the bugs you mention- sorry if that's wrong!) I've been using different good bugs from the oldest predatory bugs company in the Netherlands, entocare. I tell them what pests I have and they send me the right stuff. I get baggies of predatory mites that eat the younger stages and also work preventatively and if there's adult thrips I get a product called predatrip which is predatory thrips! I also get nematodes every now and then but mostly against fungus gnats. It's been working great.
@littleheaven70
8 ай бұрын
@@plantwithroos Oh, that's so cool you can get predatory thrips! Sounds like you've got everything covered, in that case, and I'm glad you've been getting good results. I'm actually in New Zealand, and we can't even get all the species we need for a thrips outbreak because there are only two suppliers and they mainly service the big nurseries, not home growers. Our only option for adult thrips is Orius which is always out of stock. I've been muddling through with as many cucumeris and stratiolaelaps as I can afford. I'm actually about to try breeding my own! Should be a cool experiment 😃
@plantwithroos

Maybe stupid question, the light in the tank is that the light from the tank itsself and is this a growlight. Or an ordanairy light that works for plants. I have a new tank a side somewhere. Bought it ages ago for my daughter in het teens, she is in het twentys now and the tank is still standing there doing nothing. Can I use it as a propoagation box? Grtz from belgium, nice video buy the way with lovely beautiful plants 🤩🤩🤩
@plantwithroos

If you mean the begonia tank, then it's the original light from the aquarium. In the big planted terrarium there's a Mother growlight, the plant spectrum 32. In the smaller terrarium in the living room there's a led bar light that's very cheap (and not very pleasant to the human eye) but works well for plants. So yes, use it! And either use the original light or put a simple one in to try. I hope that helps!

Hey Julia! From what I understand it's based on what they (scientists?) know about Latin sounds. But it's easy for me to adjust cos 1. I'm here at home in my own bubble with my plants and 2. I'm Dutch and the way I learned it's very similar to Dutch pronunciation of sounds so that works for me. I can totally understand that as someone English speaking and working in the field with many others, that it's better to say as you learned and not be the odd one out 😅❤️
