you get used to the wind screen heating lines. after short time you don't see them anymore. In my old Focus I only saw them when I didn't drive for some weeks. Then I saw them again because it's distance from your eyes is similar to the distance of a monitor. Means that your eyes are more trained on that particular distance. But I can say that the screen heating is extremely helpful in winter (never again scraping ice) and I really recommend to go for that option if you live in colder areas.

When I first got a Ford with the heated windscreen I hated it, I almost returned the car. After a few weeks I stopped seeing the lines, I guess your brain learns to stop putting your attention on them. Now I only see them if I deliberately choose to and wouldn't buy a Ford without the heated screen, it's useful not just with ice but also to clear the condensation more quickly than the fan.

You cannot judge that much this car tomas. The truth is thats cost the half of the Mercedes a class and it's not lack of quality for it's price. It's practical and better engines than these one in Mercedes which cost about 50k euro the package that you advertise. I really consider this car is a beauty among the past focus models and I am really impressed of ford cause for this brand all this thing is really revolutionary

one thing ford knows is to make a car that is fun to drive. And I like the design, but that's something personal. It's not a car you can compare with the premium cars when talking about materials and overall feel but ford doesn't try to be premium, they want to make a very good driving car. If I could choose between fancy materials or a good fun to drive car, it wouldn't be a hard choice. For example, I never understood the importance of soft materials on the dash. I almost never touch my dash and even if I did I don't mind a hard surface. But everyone has his/her own preferences and money to spent.

One of the best cars I've driven, had BMW's Audi's and VW's. Some very expensive cars. I have an ST Line 1 litre Ecoboost and it's a brilliant everyday car. The handling in corners is like it's on rails. The engine and six speed gearbox are really sweet, the only thing that lets it down is the air conditioning which is hopeless.

Regarding the heated windscreen debate or quickclear in Ford speak is standard fitment over here in the U.K on the majority of the Ford range, a very useful feature, I'm waiting for my new car, a 3 door Ford Fiesta 1.0 100bhp titanium with the panoramic roof option & I can't wait for it to come. I've had previous experience with Ford's heated windscreen & personally think it's a fantastic idea, Ford has had this feature since the mid 80s.

Thomas, your excellent review has convinced me Ford U.S. is making a HUGE mistake by not bringing this new Focus Hatchback (regular body style) to North America; 6-speed manual as standard with 8-speed automatic as optional. Honestly, it is such a nicer car all around than the current generation. Please, tell Ford Europe to contact Ford U.S. and tell them to change their minds (or please contact Ford U.S. directly). Daniel LeRoux The Corolla sells because of its legendary reliability, cost and ease of ownership but it’s hardly dynamic or cutting edge. I have driven the latest versions and it was dull and dishwater.
@mikldude9376
6 жыл бұрын
Lash195 those qualities in the corolla far outweigh its dullness. Buying a new car should not involve trips to the dealer to get stuff fixed that should not have failed on a new car. I dont know what the build qaulty of this ford is like , but in recent years ford has dropped the ball on various models way too often. Given both companies track record , i think i would go the corolla.
@danielleroux6490
6 жыл бұрын
mikldude The new Corolla doesn't utilize its hatchback space well at all. The 'stylistic' shape of the rear cuts into cargo space - who the heck designed the hatch? It eats up space worse than the silly Civic hatchback "I'd rather look like a sedan than a hatchback" shape. The Ford Focus and the VW Golf have the best hatch design in terms of esthetic and functionality.

Lash195 My colleague had so many issues with his Corolla that he said Au Revoir to Toyota and went and bought a Mazda3. He loves how it drives and has only had some issues with the infotainment system, not the mechanical issues he had with the Corolla. The last time I drove a Corolla, it felt just like the cheapest tin-can crap car ever - only slightly better than the crap Yaris which really stunk to drive!

And its HUD (even this type) is a great thing especially if using ACC. Many thanks for review.

Hi Gordon! I think all our comments disappeared with the removal of the earlier video. Never mind - we're all being given a second chance. Yes, I too am a huge fan of a rorty 3-pot like the one fitted to my Fiesta. They fail miserably in making a car frugal with its petrol but they do add to lightness and produce a characterful soundtrack, at least. The Mk. 4 Focus seems a fantastic car but it will always be up against the Golf, which is more often certain to have been built with more care and given flawless paintwork at the factory, especially at VW's excellent facility near Zwickau. And yes, it is said that Germans have no sense of humour; knowing Thomas as we do, I think we can both beg to differ. Cheers!

I kind of hate those Ford heated windshields. I always see the heating wires and it makes it hard for me to focus my sight on the road. So... I guess I'm with Thomas on this one.

When you see the reviewer laughing and smiling while driving and changing lanes for fun, everything else feels less important in choosing a car.

I like the appearance much more than before. Now one of the nicest looking hatches in this segment. Good value too I think. But I think your comment that it could be a three year old design is telling.

Hi, Thomas. Could you please do the review of the Estate version with diesel and the new automatic gearbox? Keen to know how this all works together for the driving, consumption, noise etc.

Thanks! This is the first time, I hear someone, else except me, who finds the 8" screen ugly :) Good job, Tom!

I would really like to know if overboost can help with overtakes..the engine is small and I don't like to downshift in motorways
