15:05 He's talking about scaling "laws" not "loss". These are often used by scientists to relate the manner in which one quantity grows as another changes. The simplest scaling law might be that the volume of a sphere grows as the cube of its radius. Here, they are talking about how FSD improves with compute time and dataset size.

The 12.3 update was the most notable shift in FSD since I've owned my car. Where I used to be on edge when the car was driving before because it would randomly do weird shit sometimes, it's been pretty flawless so far and I've tested it in rush hour traffic in Denver. This makes a huge difference in the utility because now I feel like like I can relax and let the car do its thing. Really excited to get 12.4 and 12.5

I can't deny that each version is a step forward, and when I compare to where we were in the very early limited beta when I got in, it is almost jaw dropping. That said, I really feel like each version is two steps forward, maybe even two leaps forward, but with a step back. Ever since v12 came out for example, speed control has been atrocious. Lane selection is a lot better, but I frequently find ego being stupid about how it changes lanes and sometimes it just leaves me sitting across two lanes! I'm also still really concerned that they are overfitting to certain areas. I often see videos like these here and others on YT where it does amazingly well, then I go out in my local area and rarely can I go even one drive without having to intervene or disengage. It STILL can't handle roundabouts properly. I swear whoever trained it is one of the 80% of Americans that does not know how to legally drive a two-lane roundabout in the US? (Hint it is NOT the same as most other countries) and v12 refuses to properly slow down when the speed limit drops, unlike previous versions. Also still doesn't recognize school zones which seems like a huge omission for a version that is being pushed more to the public with the free trial and reduced monthly cost. I live in a community with a lot of Teslas - 6 just on my block! - and I've had more than one neighbor tell me how they had to take over in the school zone and they weren't expecting that. Me personally, I just hate how it handles intersections. I get that its better to start cautious, but really it is so careful and so slow in intersections that it drives me and passengers nuts. I frequently get honked at for being so slow. Overall I feel Tesla has a rather solid base and needs to spend some time focusing on important problem areas. Things that are causing disengagements, like speed control, lane drifting (yes that's back) lane straddling, and driving situations like round abouts that it can't handle properly should be the focus.

Apart from obvious differences between countries, such as road signs, left or right hand driving, roundabouts, there are also almost unwritten rules. For example in the UK we 'create' extra lanes even in small roads to let emergency vehicles through or flash our lights to tell others we are giving way to them. So will FSD have to be trained separately for each country to pick up on these? If travelling from the UK to the continent will FSD drive like a Brit, then switch to driving like a Frenchman or an Italian within those countries?

V12.3.4 - Big improvement. Three takeaways I noticed in City driving: 1). Accelerates a bit too fast from a Stop sign/light unnecessarily. This eats up battery faster. 2). FSD uses Brakes more than Regen. I know to let regen do its thing where FSD waits too long to start braking so uses brakes to stop. 3). Is not pothole or manhole aware, some are quite deep and FSD just runs right over them. Not great on suspension or alignment.

I’ve only ever experienced FSD during this free month. I’m optimistic it will get better but I wouldn’t think of paying for it until it does. I didn’t realize how much I subconsciously avoid potholes, manhole covers, etc. until my car was hitting them constantly. Also there needs to be a way to just completely switch off lane changes that aren’t needed for navigation. I really got sick of trying to figure out why my car was actively trying to get in the wrong lane when nearing a turn. Also if I have it in “chill”, that means I don’t want it tailgating the car in front of me(something that would reduce my driver score if I was driving). I’m sure there are plenty of other nitpicky things i’m already forgetting but I wasn’t as impressed using it as I was watching your videos.

The distributed compute thing is kinda strange. If you buy a computer, the OEM doesn't get to run a workload on your machine. Why wouldn't you want your car doing anything when not in use? It's a waste of capital investment. @@AIDRIVR thank you so much for the quick reply 🙏🔥 it’s very helpful to get your expertise. Can I ask though… do you think if one doest buy FSD with TACC get better?

@@alexkomlosy It's hard to say, I think they're all in on making FSD a reality and improving TACC seems like it would be pretty far down on the list (especially since it's completely removed in the latest updates)

@@AIDRIVR thanks for this. I had no idea they had actually removed it from the new updates 🤯 That’s a shame as not everyone wants to buy FSD.

I’d be curious and cautious on the distributed computing will come to be. Is it going to be in the fine print of FSD? Will it be an opt in with payout you receive from Tesla? Only time will tell I suppose. I sure wouldn’t want to drain an extra 2% per hour for Tesla gain but would be happier with an extra $20/day after electric costs.
