Big Yamaha fan here from the 70's and 80's ...then drifted away...was going with separates from different sources eg Arcam...now have Marantz with external power from Emotiva and Anthem ...love it I was wondering about the set up for Yamaha menu ...I saw some reviews said the models prior to this one were not that great Pioneer had a goofy set up menu took me years to understand lol Thats one thing I like about Marantz ...ease of set up ...and new Anthem has new set up also ..dont know the ease of it But I guess you will be able to use your tablet to set it up So you said the next video we will find out the ease of set up if any ..with Yamaha ....hopefully they will have followed Marantz and Denon! I know people who like Yamaha and Pioneer but wont buy them because of this. Thanks for your input!

I've had this receiver for a few weeks now and I find it to be a great receiver, I'm having a lot of fun with it! The only thing that happened was that I needed to upgrade to new HDMI cables because I was running into audio video feed issues from my satellite system. The symptoms were that the video and audio acted wonky and kept cutting out every 5 seconds or so. Not the Yamaha's fault at all, just older and outdated hdmi cables. I have this receiver paired with Klipsch reference speakers and WHAT FUN IT IS!!

I have the RX-A2A with Klipsch RP-8000F and RP-600C and really love the sound. I do have a question. What happens when you press the display button in the remote? Mine doesn’t do anything. You should test how well this unit handles low impedance tower speakers. For example My JBL Studio 590's are 6 ohm, but they kind of dip down to 4 ohms with low bass. So a good test would be to run speakers like that full range in pure direct mode and see what happens when you get loud. (In bi-amp) (My Yamaha RX V-385 failed so bad.) Though most receivers don't expect to be playing full range bass hardcore like that. Also try playing some .wav files on usb that the song is smooth from one track to the other to see if has gapless. My Yamaha RX V-385 does not play gapless, so for a lot of albums I just have to burn cd cause the break in the middle of the tracks annoys me. My Yamaha has that same remote and I actually like it a lot. It's way better than the dirpy one that came with my Denon. Also one thing I noticed about my Yamaha RX V-385 is that it has kind of mediocre dsp. Like, just using straight mode with just a sub crossover setting only vs direct, I find direct sounds way better. Never complained about that before. I feel so snoby now. I like Yamaha stuff a lot so I guess I might try a higher end one to see it it's more improved. Never really tried surround sound yet on my RX V-385, but I for sure will at some point. I seriously need to get a modern game console just to play with surround sound.

funny story: I accidentally ordered this on eBay for 3 cents higher than the one I have rn, and I only cancelled the order cuz of using the wrong credit card, but only a while after getting the TSR 7850 at nearly the same 400 sale, that I REALLY realized it was the better choice for me. I won't get 8k, but I still get 4k hdr10+ Dolby vision passthru, and I have an analog input for my Wii, and the equalizer is actually more adaptable than just +/-6 dB at just a few frequencies. THAT was really helpful for getting a very specific sound signature I wanted, and I absolutely love it! If I ever upgrade to 9 ch, it HAS to be the rx A2080.

I think folks should not lose sight of the fact that it is a BUDGET receiver, which will attempt to provide ATMOS playback. The main question would remain at what level of believability. I have Polk Signature S55, very efficient with 8 ohm/90 dB efficiency) and the Yamaha drives them fine, but Yamaha takes a huge performance dip when using all 7 speakers. My 3 year old Denon X3500 (I actually paid less for brand new, 3 years ago) can power all 7 of my Polk Signature speakers (S55 main L-R, S30 Center, S15 Surrounds, S15 Atmos) without no power loss, the Yamaha takes a big power dip with 5 or 7 speakers. With harder to drive speakers, like my NHT (sealed, 86 dB efficiency), the Yamaha take a big hit. So running 6 Ohm speakers would be pushing it, 4 Ohm speakers would not be recommended at all. $600 is not a budget receiver price, it is mid-range. A 5.1 channel would be budget receiver from any of the main brands.

I got the Yamaha TSR-700 (same as the RX-V6A), very disappointed. My 3 year old Denon X3500 blows it out of the water in power, sound quality, and has preamp outputs for all channels. The Denon looks archaic compared to it, the Yamaha is much lighter, a little bit taller, not as much depth. I do like the outer design, but for sound quality, the Denon walks all over it and puts out much more power to all speakers. When using all 7 channels ( I have 5.2.2 with two ATMOS Height speakers), the Yamaha takes a noticeable power dip. The Denon seems to not take any performance hit. I tried the Denon X3500 with 4 (All NHT speakers) SuperOne 2.1 (Left, Right, Surrounds), the SuperCenter, and SuperZero 2.1 for front heights. I had to really crank up the speaker levels TSR-700, because they are sealed speakers. The Denon powers them with ease. With my new Polk Signature S55 L-R. S30 Center. S15 Surround and S15 ATMOS height setup I got a few days ago, they are very efficient and the Yamaha does pretty good with them, but the Denon is a league ahead of it in power output and sound quality. I do not imagine the Yamaha TSR-700/RX-V6A would be able to power 4 Ohm speakers very well or at all, (with 6 Ohm pushing it) the Denon would not break a sweat. I can disable the subwoofers and the Denon makes my Polk Signature S55 towers pump out some bass, whereas the Yamaha does not seem to be able to get the same result, and the S55 are very efficient (90 dB, 8 Ohm) and relatively easy to drive. Multipoint YPAO room correction on the TSR-700 (RX-V6A) did a horrible job in my room, it sounds better with music with it off (even with YPAO, DSP, and speaker tweaks. I tried Natural, Flat, Front settings, it still sounds better disabled. Audyssey XT-32 room correction on the Denon X3500 makes it sound richer and did a much better job. It EQs both subs (the bass is the most important to correct with room correction), whereas the Yamaha does not correct below 30 Hz and treats both subs as the same (the Denon treats each sub as independent). I am using a SVS SB-1000 Pro as sub 1, RSL Speedwoofer 10s as sub 2, so it it important they get not treated as one subwoofer as one is sealed, the other ported. The Yamaha remote is cheap feeling and very limited, the Denon is much better and can do a lot more. The menu system is atrocious on the Yamaha, the Denon is very easy to navigate. Ultimately, I discovered I like Denon so much more, but there is no contest which is the better sounding and more capable receiver. I paid $599.99 for the Denon 3 years ago, a little more for the Yamaha TSR-700. The all channel pre-outs on the Denon X3500 is the cherry on the top. I will be selling my TSR-700 and either getting the Denon X3700, or the Onkyo TX-RZ50 as an upgrade to my X3500, which is a keeper until then. I really wanted to like the Yamaha RX-V6A/TSR-700 too.

@@Kpaceguy In full agreement if 8K and gaming are priorities. If not I want to wait on 1080, 2080, 3080 inventory dump. They are wonderful Aventage units and I'll look forward to the discount pricing.

I watched the dyno test of this receiver and it doesn't have 100 Watts for channel it has 143 watts per channel.

Are you sure that wasn't peak power? 143 is a big difference from the advertised power.

@@Quietprofessional1 I just watched it...yeah the Yamaha definitely punched above it's weight class..but you have to keep in mind, the advertised power output is at 8 ohms. The wattage it hit was considerably higher throughout testing but at lower ohm loads...not that it matters much because the ohm rating is variable and changes constantly. Great receiver at this price!

@@GSP-76 Nice it increased it's power at lower impedance. A lesser amp would buckle for sure.

There's a reason why manufacturers almost NEVER place the main knob centered in the middle of the unit....it looks goofy. Yamaha was simply trying to win points for being 'different' (i'm a huge Yamaha fan by the way)

I hate the LCD display. Looks like it will glow like a bright rectangle in a dark room when on. I'm glad I already picked up the previous generation Yamaha Aventage AVR.

It can dimmed or turned off. It's smaller than any AVR screen before it's generation

@@Kpaceguy I can tell it's smaller, for sure, but it's the method of backlighting that I dislike. Sure it can be turned off or dimmed right down so the back lighting is less visible or completely off, but that reduces the functional usability. I expect this LCD screen will get swapped out in future year models. Glad I won't be in the market for a replacement AVR for some time.

Honestly being the owner of a Yamaha dsp-ax1 and a RX-v1800 this looks like a box of garbage. Cheap plastic, that front panel is going to be nasty in a matter of years. Scratch magnet. Touch panel will not be long lasting. Pathetic little display like they had back on the dsp a1000/2070. Sorry Yamaha is on the curve of going down the same slippery path as the competition.

I spent six frustrating hours trying to justify spending $599.00. I have owned two Yamahas in the past. This one was the worst by far. The on screen display looked like something left over from the 70's. Menus were not intuitive. I was not able to get wifi or Bluetooth connected. Center volume knob was non functional. Really cheap build quality. When I picked it up out of the box it didn't feel like there was a power transformer aboard. That was my first clue that this was going to be a huge disappointment. Needless to say I had to return the unit. Did not sound even half as good as my old Pioneer Elite. I either need to pony up for the more extensive Yamaha at $2000 or go with another brand. What a teaser thinking i could get into a decent Yamaha for less than $600.

Horrible looking, plastic amp wich will be full of scratches withing 6 months only by cleaning it with a soft cloth. I'm in the market for a new one and always had Yamaha, but this plastic thing will not be in my living room.
