I just stumbled across this, and I am so happy!!! Richie Furay is one of my all time favorite musicians, hands down. If you were growing up in LA late 60s, it was the most amazing time for music. So many new up and coming musicians and bands were always playing somewhere around town in small venues and we were so fortunate to see a lot of the greats on their journey. There is a magical period of about five or six years, 1966 thru 1971, when this special brand of music swept in and took off, creating a distinct soundtrack representing the times. This is where Buffalo Springfield comes in and I betray the Beatles by jumping ship and going over to the other side. ‘On The Way Home’ thank you, Richie!I will always love that song. And then, poof! There goes Buffalo Springfield! And in comes Poco! With what a line up of some with the best musicians. The BS 2.0 . And thank you, Richie for that too! so many. So many songs, Richie sings with his awesome vocals. I love the sound of his vocals. I’ve been a Poco fanatic ever since and have seen them perform, I don’t know how many times. Over the years, I have named my squirrel, my cat and my horse “Poco.” A great band thru thick & thin! I could go on and on with accolades, but this h already turned into a never ending post! ♥️ #pocolover

I had the good fortune of making Richie in 2016 and 2017. I've had dealings with a number of famous musicians and other historical figures, and Furay is THE most down to earth, what you see is what you get, and genuinely good person that I've ever run across.

Thank you so much for these Richie Furay interviews. I really started getting into Springfield and then Poco at the beginning of all the C19 mess. Furay's music had a deep impact on me then, so I really appreciate these talks with him. Hope there's many more to come.

Short bit about Jim but still cool. I was a fan since Traffic's LSOHHB. Derek found later. Story was Jim's Mom used to tell him "You'll never be as good as Hal Blaine". Pretty sure Jim took lessons from this studio great. One night, between 'jobs', he killed her on her door step with a knife. Sad doesn't begin to describe this.

One of my friends was in a band that backed the Everly Brothers in Germany- including the Star Club in Hamburg. I will have to ask him the year- 1964 or 65 I would guess. The drummer was Jim Gordon and the guitarist was Don Peake. My friend said he learned so much from Don Peake and that Jim Gordon was amazing- although he usually prefers drummers who play behind the beat! You can hear Jim with the Everlys on Walking the Dog- and the rest of that amazing album- Sonny Curtis, James Burton and Glen Campbell on guitars!

I've studied JIm and Keith Moon, I study drummers not drums, I try to learn them to figure out how they did what they did and also their lives. There's not a lot of documentation about Jim other than his recorded works, the timeline suggests that after Pretzel Logic or during, things fell apart, he already had some violent outbursts, he socked Rita Coolidge real hard, black eye, he stole her piano part, he was playing it in the studio with Derek & the Dominos and Clapton asked what it was, instead of saying "something my girlfriend Rita wrote" he claimed he wrote it and it became the 2nd half of Layla and he got the credits. There's no proof but as Pretzel ended Jeff Porcaro was more on the scene and in demand and had no head trip or other issues and he became the go to drummer for pro sessions with no drama and Jim was out, very little work by him is listed after that except for drumming in the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band from 1973 to 1975. He did an Alice Cooper album after that in 76, the drugs and alcohol added up and his health declined.

Richie was fortunate to have worked with two superlative musicians in Jim Gordon and Poco’s drummer George Grantham. George just doesn’t get enough credit for his work. Just a tremendous musician. ✌️😎🎶

Reading current things about Jim Gordon I see that he refuses to take his meds and lately denies what he did. Years ago he did admit to the killing so it seems he's gone down an even darker road. I don't think he'll ever be released. What a shame...my earliest influences were Mitch Mitchell and Ginger Baker but then I discovered Jim Gordon. Really admired his work.
