There are actually 11 Grade crossings on the NEC. One of them (Freemans Island) is basically a driveway for an estate and the other is Walkers Dock, which while not a public road is publicly accessible as it is the entryway to a Marina.

Yes and I only counted ones that were on public roadways, I was not sure if I could access them without trespassing, so I did not count them

There aren’t many. I remember seeing a video from the 1980’s that showed all of them back then. Crazy how you’d just stumble upon a railroad with 125mph trains passing by at any given moment

Up to about 2014, there were two grade crossings on electrified Amtrak service south of NYC (both along the Keystone Corridor between Harrisburg and Philadelphia). Both have been eliminated (just like the grade crossings on the NEC south of Wilmington, Delaware) and with a current track upgrade project between Lancaster and Harrisburg, there is that potential of higher-speed (100 to 110 mph) service between Harrisburg and Paoli (with 90 mph max service happening east of Paoli if the overhead catenary are upgraded, including rerouting of the 138 kV transmission lines to the Main Line west of the 52nd Street Interlocking).

Cool to see, but would be great if these could be eliminated, the train speeds were so slow in CT when I was heading up to Boston… I know it would be super difficult though.
@stormrail4540

@ThreeDee912 I think it's more so the curves than the crossings. Other routes go 110 mph across roadways and the sections where the crossings are on the NEC are not on persistent straightaways
