In dark souls one, there was no teleporting until halfway through so you had to remember and walk the entire map if you wanted to navigate it. I'd also say that the increased speed in 3 can also make things challenging if you had gotten used to the slower speeds of 1 and really slow speed of 2. Then again in Bloodborne you had no real defense system and Sekiro is difficult for a lot of reasons so they all have their own mechanics that make things their own brand of difficult

I think that the reason sekiro is so difficult is because up until that point, we’d been primed to dodge as much as could and generally just avoid attacks at all costs. This worked for me until I got to genichiro, then hit a brick wall. He’s a great early game boss that forces you to learn the combat system. I must’ve died to him 50 times trying to brute force it, whereas now he’s not even a challenge. That’s also part of the reason it’s my favourite from soft game. It’s the most rewarding imo in terms of feeling like you’re improving at the game. I think it’s so poetic that your first proper encounter with genichiro, for most players was a colossal challenge and yet, by the final boss, he’s literally the easiest phase of sword saint that you won’t really die to.

Dark souls three is one of my personal favorites because it got difficulty, progression, and aesthetic so perfect out of all of the games. I feel like it's the optimal Souls experience in my opinion for having less frustration in the levels and most of the challenges coming from the enemies and bosses. It also compensates for that by making your character feel stronger and faster than in previous entries. Combine that with the best environments, best bosses, best music, and best DLC, and you have a beast of a game.

@@reeseboreman1233 First off, Lothric Castle, really? It was less stuffed than Boletarian Palace and Drangleic Castle. Narrowing it down to Irithyll Dungeon and Farron Keep, I agree those are the two most frustrating areas (along with MAYBE Catacombs of Carthus and Cathedral of the Deep), but those are a minority of the areas. Dark Souls II and earlier had more areas that were frustrating, and even Bloodborne took a few missteps in its areas. The only reason I found Sekiro the least frustrating for areas is because of the verticality.

@@ZA-lv8baI completely agree with this. Everyone is always criticizing DS3 for being “too linear” but who said linearity was a bad thing? In DS1 I sometimes struggled to find out where to go, it’s like a metroidvania sometimes but less well done, like getting the key to lower undead berg. I didn’t even know that door was there until I looked up a video. DS3 is just free of that frustration, and I can see some people liking the fact they can go to super late game levels early but for me and most people that’s just not a huge appeal.

Sekiro was just the hardest to get used to, but the most satisfying. The Madame Butterfly fight made me realize I was trying to play it like Dark Souls, and I got gud immediately after. There's a rhythm and intricacy to movement in Sekiro fights that other Fromsoft titles don't necessarily have. Bloodborne is the hardest for me (but I haven't played DeS or DS2)

Play it like it's DS1, mainly solo melee combat, and it's miles harder. Even with good weapons it's super difficult, I've never leaned into magic much I any of the games so I just instinctually play elden ring this way and it stays much more interesting this way from what I've seen and heard.
@twistedmetal15

@@lileofficial4273 absolutely not true. Status effects are just broken in ER. It's still a bit difficult for newcomers, but all the fromsoft games are. ER is the easiest If a new player uses literally anything from rot to bleed the game is 100x easier. In previous games status effects were pretty situational and mostly for pvp.
@lileofficial4273
Жыл бұрын
@@twistedmetal15 yes and no, you still gotta be decent to apply status effect to a degree that they will help. If your gonna use the dragon breath to cheese the game you have to make alot of sacrifices in your build or grind mindlessly for hours to way over level, which isn't an elden ring exclusive problem. Yea I'd definitely agree it's the easiest for new comers, but I never said anything about newcomers. Elden ring is the objectively harder game if you played it to a similar style as a dark souls knight.
@twistedmetal15
Жыл бұрын
@@lileofficial4273 "sacrifices in your build" not really. Firstly, an efficient build doesn't matter at all unless you plan on partaking in PvP, which most newcomers don't really PvP, and for the ones that do, you can respec. (And they usually do anyway) All u need is minimum amount of faith and arcane for the breath. Rot lasts so long and does so much damage already on the low end you can successfully cheese most of the game with minimal effort. And even as a dark souls knight, using bleed makes it sooooo much easier. Still hard at points but I'd still call it the easiest.

I LOVE how you noted the levels as sooo many people entirely neglect to mention them. One thing I do miss from early souls is emphasis on level difficulty, epically playing Demon's Souls now. I personally find levels way more important than bosses just due to the time you spend in them compared to time spent fighting bosses.

Personal ranking: -7: Demon’s souls: although it has long levels, the combat system, enemies and bosses are relatively simple, while sometimes it mat be frustrating. Also it has grass stacking and even with half health is still manageable so, i don’t get all the challenge. -6: Dark Souls 3. Best game for begginers and a linear yet beautiful gameplay. The areas are a cakewalk, the real challenges are bosses. But with the right weapon (like the longsword, the greatsword or the Sellsword Twinblades) and some help, you’ll be able to grind through this game. Also the movement is way faster and controllable than its predecessors. -5: Elden Ring. This could be your easiest souls gameplay experience ever or a straight up nightmare. It all depends by your character and gear level. As long as you’re doing things good, your adventure would be pretty enjoyable, despite the complex movements of bosses and the difficulty of some areas. Also, the advantage of being an open world and giving you the opportunity to ride a horse whenever you want, gives you more freedom on your gameplay progression. And there are many ways to get op in this game. Just don’t give up, it will take a while to finish the game. -4: Dark Souls 1. The areas are the general hard part of these games, and some bosses being the notorious blocks that keep players from going on. The enemies are pretty simple but do a hell lot of damage. Also, combat system is clumsy and harder to control and the world structure is very infamous to new players. If you know where you’re going and what you’re doing tho, it will be passable. If not, well, prepare to die. Also, there are a lot of ways to get OP, in this game, such like Black Knight Weapons or Sorcery. -3: Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls 2 is just an enhanced Dark Souls 1 and you can’t deny it. Way clunkier combat and animations, easy ganks, unfair bossfights, stronger enemies and a progressive HP decrease each time you die if that wasn’t enough. Despite the vary health-ware system and number of good builds, this game is not joke. Seriously. Two advices tho: LEVEL ADP AND USE SORCERIES/HEXES. -2: Bloodborne: Clean gameplay with a smooth parrying system helps you a lot in this hell of a nightmare. On the other hand though, this game is why you call it as that. The healing system is minimal, there are punishing bosses that have many unpredicatble moves, enemies on drugs and some of the hardest areas in the series. -1: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice: Do I even have to explain this? God, i’m not touching this game anymore until i’m mentally prepared enough.

For me I personally considered dark souls 3 and dark souls, for ds3 it's because it was my very first interaction with a souls game so every single mechanic in the game was new to me and almost every single enemy was an absolute pain in the ass to beat but because of ds3 my experience with other souls games a lot easier, same can't be said about dark souls 1 though, me playing ds3 first before ds1 made it pretty damn hard and it's not because of the difficulty, I personally think it's actually the easiest out of the trilogy after finishing it but instead it's because of the clunkiness of the game with how old it is and how the game rewards you more if you play passively and take your sweet time at fights, which is almost the opposite of ds3, so it felt like I was back to square one where I had to drastically switch up my play style and get used to every new thing all over again
