The fact is there were lot of hindu (including sindhis and panjabi) up to the borders of afghanistan in a region where pakistan is now. These hindus were pushed out brutally. Lot of hindus were erased gradually at pakistan but nobody talks about that. So lets be generous and rational. We have need to learn that ‘our generation and next’ should able to forgive each other religion for Past Partition Trauma, then only we can progress together. Gandhiji went on hunger strike till death to stop riots. It was already declared prior to Independence that India will be a secular country involving all the religions.
@desidark1243

The Muslims were not “pushed out” Rick. I’m not saying this from an emotional or patriotic place - it’s simply not accurate. Gandhi, the Congress Party (the original undivided one that had representation from across today’s political spectrum), and Indians in general were vociferously opposed to Partition. The Muslim League led by Jinnah REFUSED to live as equals with the Hindus in a secular republic because prior to the British showing up, the (dying) Mughal Empire treated Hindus as slaves and required them to play the religious Jizya tax. Jinnah and his colleagues formed the Muslim League and petitioned the British to create Pakistan (the land of the “pure”) because they did not agree to their status as slave owners being changed. Pakistan did not happen because the British decided to “put the Muslims over there” it happened because the religious zealots who had no intention or concept of Western secularism successfully threatened the last Governor General into separating them from idol worshippers. It is not Islamophobia to recall history accurately and is necessary to understand the psyche of the subcontinent as it stands today. The British may have put both groups on the same side for a short while but the catharsis of the original and much longer conflict never came about, and that’s why it’s playing out in India Pakistan today.

Additional Facts about the 1947 Indo-Pak war. After Independence, the princely state of Kashmir wanted to remain independent, but Pakistan tried to force the issue and sent their army and a bunch of irregular forces to capture Kashmir. They had some initial success in capturing areas of Kashmir. However, the irregular forces stopped for looting the initial towns they captured thereby slowing their advance to Srinagar, the capital. In the meanwhile, the Kashmiri Maharaja decided the join India for help and India airlifted the Indian Army to Srinagar. The troops landing in Srinagar airfield and were immediately heading into battle after landing. This decisive action ensured that India was able to maintain a foothold in the region. India naively took the issue to the UN believing that the UN would resolve the issue, but as we know the UN was ineffective at forcing a solution.

Additional Facts about the 1965 Indo-Pak war After the 1962 defeat, Pakistan thought India was weak and that they could easily defeat India. They hoped that an invasion of Kashmir would inspire a revolt in the Kashmiri people and a weakened Indian army would not have the will to fight. They were wrong on both counts. There was no uprising and the Indian army had a strong will to fight. Although, the war was marked by competence failures on both sides. The Indian army responded by crossing the international border and invading Pakistan through the Punjab region. This caught the Pakistani's by total surprise. The Indian army reached very close to the city of Lahore but did not try to capture it due to supply issues and because they thought it would be well defended. Later it was found out that there was no defense initially for the city. The Pakistani military was armed with American weapons at the time of this war as it was a cold war ally. One of these was the M48 Patton tank. At the Battle of Asal Uttar, which was the largest tank battle since WW2, over 135 Indian tanks fought and defeated 200+ Pakistani tanks. India won the battle by destroying 100+ Pakistani tanks. The nearby town was named Patton Nagar (Patton City) because of the large number of Patton tanks that were destroyed.

It is also a fact that India lost against China in 62 due to political issues and carelessness.. it is also a fact that India won against China in 1967 and won Sikkim... and for not forgetting and learning from our losses, it's something that the higher ups do buddy😂, and I think they are doing a pretty clean job.. why isn't China sharing the number of their martyrs in Galwan? one correction guys... Muslims who believed that thier religious beliefs and freedom will be in danger, chose to move out of India and join Pakistan. The move was actually started by Mr. Jinnah. After the formation of Pakistan people have become self-declared safeguard of their religion in both the countries. And what Pakistan did to Bangladesh was yet another example that Punjabi Muslims discriminated Bengali muslims. So formation of a country based on religion was a big failure. Another thing you should know that the Pakistan part of India before independece was a well developed section of India. Am proud that India is still successful in holding the feeling of oneness irrespective of religion and community. My country never started any war and only believes in defending. Some hooligans may disrupt the peace here sometimes but 99% of the population still believes in unity and diversity. Also I don't dislike general Pakistanis. My biggest concern is that they do not speak against terrorism and others drawbacks of thier country. May be because of the fear of showing blasphemy.

They selected areas where Muslim populations were dominant and if Muslims from other parts of the nation wanted to move there they had to quickly because all this happened in a short span of time. Also the people from other communities in the area of current Pakistan had to move quickly to India as they were scared of being killed or raped and similarly for the Muslims living in bordering Indian areas where there were similar feelings of hatred towards them.

Actually the British weren't exactly responsible for the partition, they played an indirect role. Some British officials earlier formed separate electorates for different communities in India (Muslims, Sikh, Anglo Indians etc.). This lead to the rise of a political party called Muslim League when a certain group of muslims felt that their needs as a community will not be catered to by Congress Party (a mostly Hindu dominated party) once India gains independence because they are a minority. So during the entire process of legally making India an independent nation, India's independence was delayed constantly because Muslim League kept asking for a separate nation but Britain kept denying. Finally due to civil war like situations in the country and other factors, Britain had to accept this demand and India and Pakistan were created.
@ninadk30

Saying they had an indirect role would be a little unfair. They facilitated a lot of the incidents that eventually added up to the partition. A united India was never in the best interest of the British because of their fear of Russia setting up base in Afganistan.

@@ninadk30 yes I agree. They played their roles that's why I talked about the separate electorates. The point was to divide India internally so that the independence could be delayed. Additional Facts about the Kargil War of 1999 This war proved once and for all that the real power in Pakistan is the Pakistani military and not the civilian government. Peace talks between the Indian government and the Pakistani civilian government were going really well but this does not sit well with the Pakistani military, who have a vested interest in keeping the conflict going. So they launched an operation where elements of the Pakistani military disguised as terrorists entered India and took over Indian military posts in the high altitude regions in Jammu and Kashmir. Every winter the Indian Army leaves these posts due to weather and reoccupies them in the summer. When the Indian Army returned in the summer they found the posts occupied by the Pakistani military. Pakistan assumed that India would just give up control and let Pakistan keep those territories, they were wrong. India immediately launched operations to take back the captured areas. One of the major decisions in this war was to not cross the Line of Control or the international border. This was done as Pakistan had not declared war officially and was pretending that this was done by irregulars, so if India escalated the conflict we would be accused of being the aggressor. This condition severely limited the Indian Armies and Indian Air Force's operational capabilities and resulted in more casualties, than if they had been allowed to cross the border. Politically of course this decision made complete sense.

Additional facts about the 1962 Indo-China war. By this time Nehru was becoming very old and ineffective. He was a Gandhian who had naive ideas that India's moral force would give it standing in the world. The Indian military had been neglected and underequipped for ages. Also, Nehru did not trust the military as a lot of formerly colonial countries were seeing military coups happen at the time, so instead of appointing the senior-most officer as the army chief, he appointed people who were his favorites. At this time relations with China were becoming frosty, but Nehru believed that India and China were destined to be friends as both nations had suffered at the hands of the West. China was especially annoyed by the fact that India had given asylum to the Dalai Lama the Tibetan leader. The Indian Army was given the impossible task of defending a large mountainous border with insufficient troops, outdated equipment, and not enough supplies. The Chinese Army had built up a massive force and hugely outnumbered the Indian troops. On top of that, they achieved total surprise and defeated the Indian Army. The Indian Air Force was not used as Nehru had fears that the Chinese would retaliate by bombing Indian cities.

And that time, J&K was also decided to become independent monarchial Kingdom... But suddenly Pak with some tribal rebellions or looteras attacked J&K, then, King of J&K requested P.M of India for help... And that time, 2 agreements were signed for merge and access between King of J&K and P.M of India... And then J&K merge with India... And Pak feels jealous... Because India always do contribute, support and help to its neighbours and friendly countries as from past to till now...and J&K is compared as Paradise on Earth for its natural beauty... Q. Why Kashmiris want freedom from India ? Kashmiris want India to respect the terms on which it acceded to India. They want their right to self-determination, as that was the basis of the agreement of accession. To put things into perspective and understand the Kashmir issue, you need to go through the history. On August 15, 1947 British India was partitioned into the independent nation states of India and Pakistan. The rulers of ‘princely states’, bearing in mind the wishes of their people, were to choose whether to accede to India or Pakistan. The Maharaja Hari Singh, Hindu ruler, more aptly a tyrant of Muslim-majority J&K, delayed his decision. In October 1947, armed tribesmen from Pakistan’s North-West Frontier Province entered Kashmir to join an internal revolt in the Poonch region against the brutalities of the ruler.On 26 October 1947, the Maharaja requested help from India in quelling the revolt and invasion, and signed the Instrument of Accession, acceding Kashmir to India. The accession was seen as provisional pending a plebiscite to determine the will of the Kashmiri people. 27th October saw the Indian forces being airlifted into Srinagar to repel the Pakistani militias. The fighting escalated into the first Indo-Pakistan war, with Pakistan disputing the accession and eventually sending in regular forces. On 1 January 1948, India formally referred the Kashmir situation to the United Nations and on 5 February 1948, a UN resolution called for an immediate cease-fire and a plebiscite. On 1 January 1949, the UN-brokered cease-fire ends the first Indo-Pakistan war, with India and Pakistan agreeing to a plebiscite and the withdrawal of troops behind the cease-fire line, leaving two-thirds of Kashmir under Indian control and the rest one-third with Pakistan, the present POK. On 26th January, 1950 the constitution of India was enacted. Article 370 accords autonomous status to J&K, with Indian jurisdiction restricted to defence, foreign affairs and communications… Over the course of time, India devolved the powers of the state, declared it as the province of India in 1965, thus refusing to grant the people of J&K the right to self-determination. Eventually the only resort left to the people was a struggle against illegal occupation of Kashmir by Indian state, and hence the armed struggle. To further delve into the issue, we can take the example of another princely state at the time of Indian partition, the state of Junagadh. Junagadh (part of present Gujarat) was ruled by The Nawab of Junagadh, Muhammad Mahabat Khanji III, a muslim ruler ruling over a hindu majority. J&K on the other hand was a muslim majority state being ruled by hindu maharaja Hari Singh, a tyrant who had committed innumerable atrocities on the people, even as per the account of the British writers of the time. The Nawab of Junagadh had decided that Junagadh should become part of Pakistan. However, he was made to flee and plebiscite was conducted in December,1947 in which approximately 99.95% of the people chose India over Pakistan. The same precedence wasn’t followed in case of Kashmir. It is exactly this right, the right to self-determination, the right to choose their own fate that the people want. #freekashmir

Also, muslims weren't pushed out of India in 1947. Many muslims wanted a separate nation for themselves pre-1947 firmly believing that muslims and hindus cannot coexist. This belief was stoked into a full on movement with British support. Then, in 1947, those who wanted a nation from themselves moved to East/West Pakistan and those who wanted to stay in India travelled to India. The sheer anger, frustration, and misery caused by this forced migration sparked the killings on both sides.
