When I eventually get money, I will definitely come back to see if the link I looked at from ur description still sells the ones I was looking at. Tysm! im super new to otherkin and therian stuff but, i knew my friend had tails she got from a local renaissance fair when she was a kid, and she was kind enough to give me them. one of them was broken, and im pretty sure its a fox tail, most likely an indigo fox tail. when i found out it was real, i was so worried since ive always been against using real fur, but these types of videos have made me less worried about it, being that i know where the fur is coming from!! thank you so much 💖

Yes! lookup how to make a 'yarn' tail :) or look for fursuit tail tutorials. However, making a REAL fur tail is very difficult. You could easily find scraps of fur, for example from an old jacket, and re-use them to sew a tail. But skinning a fox yourself and taking the pelt through the appropiate taxidermy process is really something that needs expertise.

I really suggest people look into faux tails. If I died, I wouldn't want someone using my body part as decoration or anything really. 'Ethical' or not, at least to me it's morally wrong. Using their tails or other parts of their corpse is just so disturbing. They deserve to be fully laid to rest, not to have their corpse bought by others. If there's an alternative that doesn't involve buying body parts, then shouldn't it be used instead? I used to think taxidermy and tails was cool, but now it's just disgusting and disrespectful. I see no beauty in the skinned corpse or bones of someone who was once alive, a soulless husk of someone. Their bodies aren't ours to profit off and use for our benefit. Just another perspective to think about.
@lucid2957

Also, I'm disgusted that you support ANY furfarm PD. How could you support the breeding, the exploitation of our animal kin just so people can wear their skin as accessories? There's no such thing as ethical murder. I'm so disgusted and disappointed that you support that massacre.
@PDTherian
4 жыл бұрын
@@lucid2957 the only other option, is no tail at all. Fake fur is absolutely worst due being made out of plastic. Yarn tails include wool, which usually comes from rather cruel sheepfarms unless you are careful about where the wool comes from. Personally I don't believe anyone after death has a want or desire like 'I don't want my skin to be used'. If it doesn't get used, it'll just dissapear eitherway. Gone to waste basicly (yes ants etc can eat it, but it's not that they need it or that it gives them anything actually 'extra'). All that is, is human morals. Animals do not think about that when killing another animal or taking what they want. A fox on a furfarm does not know that they'll die, for them all what exists is their current condition. Just like an indoor cat (that's never been outside) doesn't know that there is an outdoor world. That we want to push them outdoors because of 'freedom' morals, is only on us humans (btw my cats are indoor & outdoor before you think I am an indoor-cat pusher). So if a furfarm cares very well for their animals (take a look at @flattailfurs on instagram please, walks their foxes, clips their nails, play with them in playpens, pet the kits, take sick foxes on their lap indoors, takes sick or abandoned kits to handraise,..) I personally don't see what's wrong other than a human moral of 'not to kill' (which ANY animal species has, but humans) (ofc, the animal has to die painlessly and such as by european standards calmed with medication to never stress or realize it'll die afterall) Ofcourse, I've grown up around and on farms, I've seen the chickenfarm of my best friend. She cares more about these chickens, their happiness and health, than she probably does of her own siblings. I don't think in black and white, and my opinion on farms will likely never change sorry. Other than that, could it be possible that I do not encourage real fur. But only produce the content the community either needs or wants? (tho in my case: fake fur is worse and yarn is a big neutral field. Real fur, or nothing of tails is my opinion. preferably roadkill or population control hunt ofcourse) Personally also, I haven't bought new tails in years, and most I own are to lend out within the local therian community (so not just hanging on my walls). Because I have enough to lend out to people without buying their own if they wanna try another colour or the like.. I don't need any more. And as I do not collect fur, I will not buy any new tails normally. Unless from thriftstores and local markets (attics etc) which my last 3 also come from. I would also say not to point at people for buying from furfarms as being therefore horrible. As long as you either eat meat, eggs, milk, fish, .., own any bird-feather filled pillow, any piece of real leather on any jacket or leather sofa, any piece of coyote fur on a jacket, wool hoodies, plastic lamps (plastic kills Way more animals in the long run than real fur ever will), etc etc. Because all and any of these would make you equally 'terrible' by that mentality hope I could explain my reasoning behind talking about real fur on my channel. I don't need you to accept and understand. Just to read my side of the story.

I have two tails that need repairs and you mentioned gluing leather or fabric on. my question is what is the best kind of fabric or leather to use and what kind of glue should you use?
@PDTherian
4 жыл бұрын
please use hobby glue, as this remains sort of flexible and bendeable :) For the cloth a piece of fleece or thicker tshirt material all is fine, but i'd try to go with something that isn't super thin so it's actually a strong material and doesn't stretch or rip again. For leather, any thinner (but not too thin! just that thick leather is not very bendaeble and won't fit in the leather) leather should be fine. Make sure it is sorta able to bend. I also recommend leather with a roughter structure. In my experience the really smooth ones do not stick very well. Last leather I used was to fix up knees on pants, and had this soft textile like feeling. It's also the same leather I used to fix up that keychain with the tigereye of the tail at the end of the video. make sure to cut it to fit the leather as well as possible. You may want to make a test from cheap textile or even a tissue, and then use that to outline on the leather for the final one. So you don't waste material by making mistakes. I hope it'll work! Goodluck :s

But how can i know if its rotting if the leather part is sewed closed bc its done to most of my tails.
@PDTherian
3 жыл бұрын
Because of how difficult it is to close a tail by sewing I doubt this is the case, but some hard poor leather is so nonflexible that it cannot be opened and some creators glue shut the leather. What source do your tails originate from? If the tail truely cannot be opened due any reason, you basicly cannot know for sure. However orange spots on the fur (usually close to the base) or sticky fur are a sign of fat. Which is pretty much terminal and will overtime weaken the leather until your tail will rip. An indicator for rotting and other issues like molt etc could be A. A horrible smell and B. The loss of fur / bald spots / shedding. And general discolouration. There ain’t much you can do against that sadly.

so then how DO i clean it?
@PDTherian
3 ай бұрын
hi! Sorry, indeed that was never clearly specified in this video. I'll include it in the remake! how to clean a tail: - use a damp cloth and surface clean the fur. - gently stroke the fur with the cloth untill the dirt coms off - with mud: wait until the mud has dried up, after having turned back to sand, you can gently shake it off the tail and/or brush it off with your hands or any comb or (upside down, to prevent fur getting pulled out) pet brush. - the fur fibers naturally have an oil on them, this oil will largely protect your tail from getting dirty. It repells dirt very effectively and makes that you can mostly shake of or rub of any dirt on the fibers with your bare hands. It also protects both the fur as the leather inner core from getting wet. Any soap is designed to rinse of these natural oils and therefore should be prevented if possible. If your tail is really dirty and you require soap to get the dirt of, try to use something mild such as baby shampoo or pet shampoo. Do not ever use any dishwasher soap or laundry detergent as this will strip of the natural oils entirely and might damage the leather inner core if it manages to get in touch with it. - prevent the inside (leather) core from getting wet at all costs, this leather will stiffen , break up, tear and possibly mold gradually over time after haven gotten wet. If it gets wet by accident, use a towel to dry it off as well as possible and let air dry for 48 hours. Hang the tail in front of a (wind)fan if possible to help the water drying up ASAP. Do not lay the tail near any heat source as heat will have a negative effect on the flexibility of the leather. - you can also steamclean the tail, but make sure the tail overall doesn't get too moist and can air out well afterwards. goodluck! I hope this helped you out a bit

What does it mean when you feel a bump in your tail like a very small bump?
@PDTherian

If the bump is in the center of the tail, it might be a piece of hard leather. This happenes as the leather dries out during the taxidermy process or in the years after. It might also however indicate a rip, a place where the leather is ripped and the fur gets tangled and knotted into eachother. It is a bit hard to say what exactly it could be without picutres. Not really a tip for real tails, though a tip for leather in general(like for collars). To protect the leather use leather wax (or leaterbalm, in case of emergency you can even use olive oil though not perfect it will do when extremely dried out)to protect them from dust, water, etc. It keeps it soft, strong and waterproof. Use a lot of it at first, rub it all over, let it sit for a minute then rub it in and off with a piece of cloth, let the leather settle for about 15-20 minutes and start again, now use a bit less, let it sit for a minute and rub it off again, repeat these steps untill your leather is soft but strong, it will also give off a slight shine, it's very important to rub the ecces wax/balm/etc off because else your lether gets very sticky. I do not have real fur tails but i do have a tail made from sheepskin which i protected from the elements by rubbing hairoil in it, smells great and creates an extra layer of protection against water, at the end of the day i would (gently)brush the oil and all the dirt, it collected during the day, out.

That’s normal. Part of shamanism is also to feel animalistic during the practise etc. Some forms of animality/shifst are not therianthropy. But very possible :)

ATTENTION: When/if you are tryna find your theriotype/kintype, DON'T: rely on dreams, rely on meditation, focus on your favorite animal/mythical creature, not do research DO: rely on phantom limbs/sensory shifts even if it is small like claws, fur, sent, hearing etc., shift and compare what you act like during your shift to an animal or mythical creature, have a therian/otherkin journal to record any types of shifts or or urges to shifts or anything like that, listen to any random visions in your head of being an animal because it might be a memory of your past life. hope this helps! My first real fox tail sadly got eaten by moths. They were mainly living in a taxidermy mount and I didn't notice for almost a whole year. When I did and threw out the mount it still did not stop completely. The rest were all in the fox tail and it was shedding fur in clumps. (Had it stored in a drawer.) So yeah hang your tails on the wall and check on them regularly... On 50cm tails and longer: Never again for me. Looks awesome that's true! But they are constantly in the way and impractical. You kneel down and chances are you step on it while getting up. Dogs see a big tug toy. You constantly have to have that tail in mind... I'm staying in the 30 to 40cm range. But that's just me.😉

hey, it seems like most (if not all) tails from Shein are from cruel chinese furfarms. Shein is not a safe place to buy your tails, they are cheap because they are imported from chinese cruel furfarms. Shein is a wholesale company, simular to Temu, Aliexpres, Amazon, Ebay and Wish. All of these are used to distribute large quantities of products as cheap as possible to as many people as possible and these companies are known to sell almost solely chinese (cruel furfarm) fox tails. I hope you enjoyed your birthday however and that you will enjoy these tails! :) You cannot help it, I too have received tails from cruel furfarms through gifts from friends sadly and I still use them up to this day. But whenever I buy a tail myself I make sure to research the shop and make Sure I'm buying from an ethical and healthy furfarm or hunter.

There are several reasons why it may be a bad idea for therians or therianthropes to buy real fur tails to connect to their theriotype. Firstly, the use of real fur raises ethical concerns. The production of real fur involves the breeding, confinement, and killing of animals, often in inhumane conditions. I believe that it is wrong to cause unnecessary harm to animals for the sake of fashion or personal expression. Secondly, the use of real fur can also have negative environmental impacts. The fur trade can contribute to habitat destruction and the depletion of wild animal populations. I know someone who told me about their past life as a fox in which they were confined in a cage their whole life and then killed for their fur. I can’t imagine having my whole life taken away just so someone could wear my skin to express their identity.
@LycaFurs

I agree. I personally am interested in taxidermy items such as tails (hence why I’m here) but I always make sure to never buy from farms. I’ve heard terrible stories about how they treat their animals. I think it’s unfair to never even give them a life before they die, and with this it’s inevitable, and if they’re wild, they have a good chance to not be caught.

*PIN THIS COMMENT TO HELP OTHERS!!* How to get dried up stiff leather from the inside of your tail soft again? these methods will prevent snapping and prolong your tails longevity! *1. Coconut Oil* - Leave the leather item in the sun for 10 minutes or use a hair dryer to heat its surface. Then, take a spoonful of coconut oil and rub it in. *(Note: Coconut oil will darken the leather a shade or two!)* • *2. Alcohol + Vaseline* - Apply a generous portion of rubbing alcohol to a cotton pad. Then, dab the pad on the leather surface until it is shiny. Afterward, apply Vaseline to the surface. You can apply a few layers if you feel that leather can absorb more. Leave it to dry overnight. • *3. Leather Conditioner* - Apply a leather care conditioner (lanolin-based product), to the leather. If the surface is still stiff, you can apply several coats. • *4. Mink Oil* - Mink oil can be used on jackets, boots, bags, or other leather accessories such as tails from real fur! Saturate a dry rag with the oil and apply up to three layers on the leather. Rub the oil into the surface using circle motions. Give the oil 2 to 3 days to absorb.
