Been riding Shimano Shoes for years now on the bike and though not the best looking they were flawless in function, comfort and durability. I thought about the MW501 before, but so far winters meant snow cover and I used the time for back country and cross country skiing. But given how this winter plays out so far, I'll opt for a winter shoe soon ;-) Great video as allways Sage!

I've already used Shimano shoes (another model different from the one in your video) and I didn't like them very much. They were very comfortable, but the sole was not stiff enough for me. But shoes, tires and saddles, each one of us has his own preferences and there is rarely a consensus on these topics. But this shoe looks really good for this colder season and that cover and velcro over the laces looks really interesting. As always, great video and excellent review very well presented. Thank you for another excellent video Sage.

Thanks for the feedback Luis. I'm sorry the shoes didn't work out for you, so which model was it? Also, what brand/model are you using now for bad weather days?
@MTB-Portugal
Жыл бұрын
@@TrailSage I don't remember the model, it was a few years ago. now I use a Scott MTB Comp (mid range), and they are not even for cold weather, because luckily the winter in Portugal is mild. So I can wear the same shoes all year round.

I agree Luis, I would never use the Shimano for my XC rides. On my XC rides I use a Sidi race shoe with a very stiff carbon sole. But on the enduro I would never ever want to ride that shoe since it is totally non-compliant as soon as I set my foot on the ground. Especially in tricky, rocky and rooty terrain. I used it in the past, but it is funny how it can play mind tricks, when you know your shoe won't hold on the ground once you set your foot down. It totally messes with your riding confidence. So each terrain and each riding style has its fitting shoe. I am using the SH-ME7 for my enduro rides and it's a perfect compromise for my between sole stiffness, walking grip and comfort.

Man great review Sage. I love the styling of these on top of all the cold weather benefits, fiveten freeriders definitely do not do well in the cold. I like the "when the temperatures do drop into the 20s..." while you're permanently in shorts😂

Nice looking shoes. I think probably too hot for Texas area. I need to try something different soon. I plan to get a gravel bike for racing. The Pearl Izumi shoes I have make my toes numb at about 50 miles on my road bike which I have not been able to solve. I have adjusted the mounts etc with no luck. The shoes may be too narrow. I am not sure yet. Great review.

Thanks Richard. That's a bummer about the Peral Izumi shoes. Do you have a bike shop close by? I would suggest checking out their line up. Even if they don't have the exact shoe you want, you might be able to tell which brands fit your foot best.

Just stumbled on your channel and your reviews are top notch.. New subscriber... Do you think these shoes at say 0d to -4d Celsius with a pair of merino wool socks would be suffice ? Also looking at the giro blaze but they are significantly more expensive..Any insight would help Cheers

Hey Trevor thanks for the kind words and welcome aboard. As for your question, I think with a good pair of wool socks you should have no problem. Sometimes I will even throw in a pair of toe warmers at the start of the ride if there's snow on the ground. Hope that helps.

Do these tend to be stinky after a ride in the rain? I plan to commute any day, regardles of the weather
@TrailSage
8 ай бұрын
That's a hard question to answer Andreas. Mine are not stinky, but I don't have stinky feet. If I do get them wet I pull the insoles out and let them dry like any other shoe. They are not meant to breathe well, they are meant to keep moisture out.
