Hello Yan, another information packed episode. As with all cultural reliques, of course certain items would be lost along the way. Fortunately, these Tulou are living reliques so it's that bit easier to maintain. There will always be a cost benefit balance to consider too.

These dwellings resonate with me to the ancient buildings in the north of Scotland called ‘Brochs’. These are made of stone but circular and with several floors. It’s thought that an extended family would have lived in each.

Tulou is specifically built by the Hakka people who migrated into Hokkien province from Qiang xi and Hunan. In your videos relating to this topic, you never mention a word about Hakka people who was the only group that actually built those majestic round houses. In the province of Guandong, Hakka people built single storey similar buildings in rectangular or square shapes.

@zeiaooo

if you do some research you will find that it is a misconception that tulous are uniquely Hakka - due to the fact that the famous tulous (振成楼、承启楼、田螺坑) are all Hakka inhabited. it had been found later on that there are Minnan tulous in the areas of Zhang Zhou and Quan Zhou (漳州和泉州地區). You can look at research by 黄汉民 on 闽南土楼. she also mentioned in the previous video that there are two groups of people who lives in tulou, Hakka and Minnan.

@@H.Witcher YES,On March 5 and 6, after the end of the National People's Congress, inbound tourism will be opened one after another. My friend is from a travel company. At the end of last year and in December, we were ready to receive inbound tourists. That is to say, in the middle of last year, we all knew the approximate time when the epidemic in Chinese Mainland was lifted.
