I was a former employee of Wellman robey in oldbury and i remember Allelys moving 5 or 6 furnaces to york i think. They were around 40m to 50m long and 4m in diameter. What your doing here reminded me of the professionalism you guys showed back then right down to unbolting the signs on the island so you could get the furnace over unbelievable work.

I used to enjoy going to Wellmans, the little cafe was great. Iv been back recently and took packing cases and such out of Conway Packing very sad to see so many of our engineering companies fall by the way side.

Hi, intrigued to fathom how the rear bogey keeps a locked distance. I think it's the actual bridge making part of the trailer so to speak but my brain won't compute that with all the rear steering, rotation of the load on the bogey and so on.
@Priestabload

That’s exactly it, the bridge is fastened to the turntables and acts as the trailer.

I checked out the factory on the old Google, place looks like a ghost town but theres still bridge sections just lay on the floor. Such a shame. The place even has a rail link.

Looks pretty handy with those dollies, for a 55m truck & trailer. 👍🏾😎 Wonder that it seems to be allowed in the UK to do such transports during daytime. In germany only bewteen 22-6h. Greetings from Berlin 🇩🇪

Unfortunately most motorways in the uk have overnight works or closures on them making the movement of particularly large loads very difficult over here. Thanks for watching Arno!

Yes it was a bit, unfortunately you get 1 chance to set it up straight, if it doesn’t play ball you have to make do until you can stop safely.

Great video- does the auto steering take its direction from the front end similar to a steerable trailer?
@Priestabload
3 жыл бұрын
No it takes it from the turntable on the rear bogie. As the beam turns, the turn table drives two rams which provide a hydraulic signal to the rear bogie wheels. The front bogie obviously gets its steering signal from the front draw bar as it normally would.
