Revisiting this video after a few months. This hauntingly beautiful song always makes me "cry for joy". It seems to speak of the everlasting golden thread of love that binds together generations. "It goes rushing through your soul like the stories told of old." Thank you, Mr. Toussaint, for this miniature masterpiece.

I didn't know he had died! I was so very impressed with him on AUSTIN CITY LIMITS . He told the story and sang to song. I felt like the person who sold they felt like smiling and crying at the same time. I would love to see and hear him tell the beautiful story again. How touching! Smokey Stover. Danaan, so do I. It takes me to a special place in my memory, (or maybe even a past life.) I have lived in southern Louisiana, and gazed at the night sky on a balmy evening. This performance captures the wonder and the quiet ecstasy of those moments. Only a true genius can make that happen for an audience.

Im not even from Louisiana but the way he paints a vivid picture with his music, even the very musicians sharing a stage with him couldnt help but be humbled by his music...idk who Glen Campbell is, but he had big boots to fill....like robin williams level boots to fill...

Amazing. Saw him live in camden around this time and his hands just seemed to effortlessly glide over the keys. Van Dyke Parks said Toussaint was the best musician ever, but Allen would never believe or acknowledge it of course haha

The neat thing about this performance is it's exemplifying how rhythm and blues set the foundation for what the other artists consider folk and rock. It's OK, we're all the same, and we're in it together, but credit is due where it's due.

Stop dividing and being so self righteous. Instead consider picking up a guitar and learn a ditty yourself. Then look up what blues is.

I remember hearing Glen Campbell's version on a CD that I had years ago. That CD made me a Glen fan, and, if I remember correctly, he did this when I saw him in 2007 (before the recent hoohaa happened)

I loved Robert Palmer's version of Sneaking Sally through the Ally and Devo's version of Working in a Coal Mine and even Glenn Campbell's version of this song, but Mr. Toussaint's version of this song was always the most beautiful. R.I.P.
