While a suspension bridge puts the cable reaction forces into the anchor blocks at the end of the bridge, cable stayed bridges put these reaction forces as compressive loading into the bridge deck. At a cable angle of 30 degrees with the road deck, 1 tonne of vertical loading produces 2 tonnes of axial compressive loading into the road deck. Have a look at the Gordie Howe bridge currently under construction over the Detroit River, connecting Windsor Ontario with Detroit Michigan, Canada and USA respectively. The outermost cable stays are close to 30 degrees from horizontal, putting tremendous axial loading into the road deck. Thus a 50 Tonne truck puts 100 Tonnes horizontal force into the deck structure. Trust the designer made proper allowance for this.
