Earlier this year, record-breaking outbreaks of dengue fever drew significant attention worldwide, including the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. Though once seen as a disease that only afflicted people in developing countries, dengue and other tropical diseases are an increasing global and public health threat. On Tuesday, July 9th we were joined by Dr. David Fitter, Director, Division of Global Migration Health, Dr. Monica Parise, Deputy Director for Science and Program, Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria, and Dr. Lyle Petersen, Director, Division of Vector-Borne Diseases from the CDC National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) to discuss the rising threat of these diseases in the US, the role vector and human populations play, and future projections.
